My husband recieved this letter saying that he had won 250,000 and that he was to cash the check and then send 3,865.00 back to them then the 250,000 would come via ups/fedex in the next couple of business days.

An offshoot of the Nigerian scam

Fortunately, you caught it. Most of these scams ask that the recipient send money via Western Union or Moneygram. Never do this! It can be nearly impossible to identify the person taking the money.
