The Super Wal-Mart in cannonsburg, Ky. is charging tax for edible foods. Kentucky tax is charged for some food items however, not for edible foods.

This fact was brought to the attention of management at cannonsburg, Super Wal-mart but, they said that they have always done this and that was the end of that.

Strange that Wal-Mart our Super department store telling everyone just how much they can save if they shop in their's stores is charging sales tax on the very same items that both Foodland and Kroger's and all the other grocery store's in Kentucky don't.

If they are charging sales tax where is this extra money going?

Are they turning it in to the state of Kentucky?
Strange that they have to charge this on things these other store's don't and I doubt they are getting in trouble with the state of Kentucky. This makes me feel like they are maybe keeping the profits of the tax but, I really don't know for sure where this extra tax money is going. It has to go somewhere.

I don't know about other states and how they charge sales tax on food items but, in Kentucky if you can eat it there is no sales tax on it at grocery store's. Even Foodland and Kroger post signs telling people they don't charge tax on edible foods.

Wal-mart is our Super discount store where we will save money on everything we buy. NOT!

Snack foods are not considered edible foods for they are not nurishing

AUTHOR: Brenda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 27, 2004

All groceries are taxed in our state. Except edible foods. These are foods you put into your mouth and eat them. Example: pork chops, steak and etc.

Snack foods are not considered edible foods for they are not nurishing to the body. This standard is set up through the welfare dept. of the state of Ky.

sorry you dont seem to understand what the laws are concerning edible foods. I hope this will take care of your lack of knowledge.

EDIBLE food?

AUTHOR: Alisha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 24, 2004

I don't understand what you mean by "edible food" versus other foods. Aren't all foods meant to be eaten? Why would anyone buy "inedible food" if there even were such a thing? May I suggest that you research your state's tax policy as it seems you do not understand it at all.
