Currently, I own two Toyotas and in the past was a loyal customer. Recently, in January, I was driving down the highway in my 2007 Camry and suddenly my sun visor dropped down, which temporarily blinding me. I tried to get it to go back up, but it kept dropping down while I was in traffic. I had to drive home with one hand holding the visor and the other on the steering wheel.

Clearly, as this was a mass produced vehicle, I could not have been the only person with this issue. So, I called the new Toyota of Clermont dealarship just a few blocks from my home. I asked for the service department. They asked for my VIN number and then informed me that there were two recalls, but nothing that covered the broken visor. I was very surprised as the visor was far more dangerous than either of the other issues.

On Friday 2/28/14, I found online that there were a ton of other complaints about the sun visor and that there was a "Warranty Extension" for 2007 Camrys.

I took my Camry over to the dealership and was informed by David Voci the service manager that I had missed the "warranty extension" by two weeks. When I told them that they had misled me by telling me that the visor was not covered weeks ago, they informed me that the service receptionist was not trained on warranty extensions, only on recalls.

I called the 800-GoToyota line and received no support.

First of all I feel that Toyota should have made this a recall because it is definitely a passenger safety issue. It literally renders the vehicle undriveable. They used deception in making it a warranty extension. Is this how they maintain a high rating for quality? Is this how the limit the cost of recalls?

Secondly, if I had not been grossly misled by the Toyota of Clermont service department, then I would have come in before the extension deadline.

Third, why would they have someone answering service calls that are not trained. This is clearly failure on the side of Toyota management.  Toyota should fix this safety issue, clearly they know how dangerous it is.

Isn't it ironic that Toyota seems to do everything it can in order to sell its products by bombarding the T.V. with commercials every day and displaying the Toyota logo at baseball fields, football stadiums, and hockey arenas, but when there are recalls and other problems due to defects Toyota obviously tries to keep it as quiet as possible?

You can 'Google' this- EX-TOYOTA LAWYER SAYS DOCUMENTS PROVE COMPANY HID DAMAGING INFORMATION, and watch that video on the web in order to learn more about Toyota.

If it's a serious safety hazard, have you taken care of it yet?

You seem to be mistaken...

Your car was 7 years old and you had a visor break.   You seem to think that a Manufacturer should cover repairs forever.  Oh you say no..not forever.  Okay here is a question for you..just how long do you think that a car company should cover a visor?  5 Years, 7 Years, 25 Years, or perhaps just until you need it repaired?

On Friday 2/28/14, I found online that there were a ton of other complaints about the sun visor and that there was a "Warranty Extension" for 2007 Camrys.

- Wait a minute...the initial incident happened in January and this was such a critical safety issue you let it go for at least a month?  When you found out it wasn't covered nor recalled in JANUARY, how come you didn't get this critical piece of safety equipment fixed on your own?

Now, is it a bummer that you missed the deadline by 2 weeks..yep, but it is not a RipOff.  Then again...apparently if you didn't slack off and go a month(at least) before you found it on the Internet it would have been covered.  Or are you going to say that for the price of a visor and such a critical piece of safety equipment you spent hours upon hours on-line and calling people to try and get it replaced?  Because here is the real kicker...had you done that BEFORE the warranty ran out you would have had a lot better standing to get reimbursed.

Oh by the way what other "safety issues" should they cover?  How about the door locks?  After all you need to be able to lock the car right?  How about the radio?  After all without the radio you can't listen to the traffic or weather which could be dangerous.  Heck if we take this to the conclusion you seem to want, why aren't tires covered?  After all bad tires are very dangerous..right?
