I called triple 7 movers a few weeks before a move from Las Vegas Nevada to New Jersey for my 76 year old mother. At first everything was fine Heidi gave me a quote of about $2300. About a week later Shaul went and did a visual estimate on my mothers belongings which came to $2900. Even that was fine until Moving day. On that Day the estimate grew to $4500. Their reasoning? The number of my mothers boxes and furniture jumped amazingly from 91 pieces to 160! I knew this was a crock! there was absolutely no way she could possibly have that much to move. There was much arguing and screaming back and forth all day. They were harassing and driving my mother out of her mind. After them holding my mothers furniture hostage I finally contacted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to find out almost everything this company did with their estimates was illegal here is an excerpt from an E-mail I received from them just to give you an idea Mr. Dadon, After reviewing your supplied documents, I find the company has several problems with this movement. To begin with it is estimated on a non-binding estimate based on cubic foot which is not allowed by Federal Law requires all non-binding estimates to be based on the actual weight of the shipment and your published tariff. The only way you can charged based on cubic foot is on a “Binding estimate”. In addition, your driver prepared a revised non-binding estimate again based on cubic foot which failed to comply with 49 CFR 375. The revised estimate is required to accurately list in detail the additional household goods or services and yours does not rendering it invalid. You've also stated the shippers goods have not yet been sent for transport because the shipper failed to pay your required 50% of the charges which are due at pickup, if this is the case why was the shipment even picked up? You breached your own contract! At this point the only thing you can do is transport the shipment based on the amount of the original estimate and at the time of delivery prior to unloading collect no more than 110% of the original estimate less any deposits already paid. I would strongly suggest your company review the regulations and statutes related to the transportation of household goods. In the event of a review into their operations, they would be cited for errors such as this. Long story short Mr. Itay Dadon ignored the entire above e-mail and billed me for $3000. Of course not before threatening me they would put my mothers furniture back in storage at a charge to me of $200.00 per day I don’t understand how they can consistently get away with this. This story is a lot worse then I even have the room to explain here but If you have a problem with this company like mine, especially a hostage situation Please contact the Federal Motor Carrier Safety administration, Consumer complaints. A moving company can not charge you by cubic feet!
