Dropped calls galore. Poor service, you can't go to the store and pay your bill without it taking over a half hour. You call 611 and your either on hold that long or (imagine this) the call is dropped. Changed our billing date from 20th of the month to randomly anywhere between the 5th and 10th of the month, that causes a hardship when you budget, oh and without advanced notice.

Here's the #1 burn under my skin: There are 5 phones under contract. We bought my son his phone Sept. 2006 and the merge was whatever date. Paid $200 for his phone. They merge and we get a letter in the mail that his phone is not compatible with Alltel and he can exchange it. He either gets this certain phone or so much off another phone (I don't remember the exact details). The details are mute considering...he must sign a 2 year contract to get a phone that works with Alltel.

Why would anyone sign a contract with someone that can't provide a service that your paying for and increase your rates. Seriously 4 hours in the store and acting like it isn't a big deal to sign another 2 year contract. No help from 611. So we went and bought a refurbished Alltel phone from Wireless Toys. Let me tell you that store is the BOMB!! Those people are so helpful, when your switching service providers, go there!!! And seriously while we were browsing the store, there were 3 people switching from Alltel while we were there. It's pretty easy to get an Alltel 2nd hand there.

Another MWW grumbler..........

AUTHOR: Bikebryan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 24, 2008

Midwest Wireless customers did get a rude awakening when Alltel purchased them - they moved from 19th century service to 21st century service.

There are several problems in this customer's comments repeated by many other MWW customers:

1. Alltel caused a signal degradation. The fact is that Alltel took over MWW tower management over a YEAR before the merger completed. So any decline in signal strenght (if it even existed) had nothing to do with this. Perhaps MWW equipment was poorly maintaned and failing (more about why later).

2. Free phones? OK, so your son got a phone no longer capable on the new provider. Live with it, it happens every day.

3. Rates went up? I don't think so. NO former MWW customer was forced to change rate plans so their rate plan rate did not change one bit. They were introduced to some regulatory fees that Alltel passes on to their customers that MWW ate, but that's business.

Fact is, MWW was going down financially. They let customers carry balances over 120 days old with no real work done to collect them. This brought down their available funds for infrastructure maintennance. Further, they were paying fees to the Govt every month from their own coffers that were not passed onto the customers. Alltel does not do that, they pass the cost on.

To former MWW customers: If Alltel hadn't purchased your company, either some other shark would have, or you would not have cell phones that work anymore as MWW would have gone under.
