I was contacted by email saying "Your resume has been reviewed" stating that they had positions open in their organization and I looked like a qualified candidate. I had just posted my resume on a few job search websites so I was expecting to get some information about open positions. The email looked very well put together and was very professional. The job requirements and qualifications were very vague, but interesting and I was looking for work.

I went to the website that was provided and checked out what the company looked like. The website looked very professional and even had information about different career opportunities and comments from current employees.

I next contacted someone through the email given address given to me to get some more information about the position. I received an email back with some background information about the company, job description, an employee application, an employee agreement, an ISO 9000 certificate, and a travel agent license. I was then to fill out an application and the employee agreement if I was interested in the position and send my decision back within 2 days.

The job description was very wordy and still vague saying that I would be a Travel Coordinator with the duties "from selecting the necessary tour, travel presentation to the final meeting at the airport after arrival." After that it stated "in some cases the Travel Coordinator also assists in processing payments from clients for the tour if it is necessary". There was a long verbose reason why checks were not able to be processed fast enough if they were sent directly overseas and it was the company's creed to get everything ready as fast as possible. The job description then said I would be trained online by a person so I didn't think I would be dealing with any customers for a while. I even received a telephone number and a fax number to contact the company if I had any questions.

I then sent an email accepting the position and sending back all the application information needed. I then received a message saying it would take a few days for my application to clear through Human Resources then I would be an employee. They checked to make sure that my name and address were correct for mail and paycheck.

I sent an email back saying that all the information they had looked correct and I was ready to get started. I received another email after a few days saying that I had a transaction order that I would be responsible for completing. It said I would receive a check and I was supposed to cash it and then take 5% out for my commission and send the rest via Western Union to a financial manager.

I then sent an email back stating that I was a little uncomfortable cashing a check for that much money and was wondering if there were anymore instruction other than just to cash it at any bank. An email was sent back saying that I should not worry about it and that the check would cash.

With that reassurance I then received a check in the mail made out to me from Playfield, LLC for $4286.10. I then took the check to my bank and asked them how I should go about cashing it. They said that since it was such a large amount that they couldn't cash it until the check cleared in a few days, but if I wanted to cash it that day I could go to the bank the check was from. Since I was instructed to send the money within 4 hours of receiving the check I decided to go to the bank the check was from.

I got to the bank and asked them how I should go about cashing the check and they said they could do it they just had to wait a few minutes to contact the account. I said that was fine and waited in the lobby for about 10 minutes, I wasn't sure how long it would take as I have never cashed a check of that size. After a few minutes later the manager and a police officer approached me saying that the check was bad. I then had to talk to someone from the fraud department and he told me that the account had been having some problems with fraud. I told him my story and he said that if I had left the bank with the money that I could have been arrested. I now have to bring all my interactions between me and the company so that I do not get in any legal trouble.

Looking back it looks like he got my email from a company that does Email Marketing Solution called Constant Contact. This site has email lists, profession email templates, and profession website templates. They looked to be in the same style as the website I went to and the email that I first received.
