I took my engagement ring to Bauers to have it sized. We did not buy it from there but the convenience of the store was great to where my new job was located. The lady at the counter sized my finger with her tool. She said that I would need between a 5 and 5.5. To have my ring sized and soudered, the total charge was 86.00. (a little high but saved me a long drive) I picked up my ring the next day right at close (530pm) and paid the 86.00. I then headed straight out of town for the weekend. The ring was still way too big and fell off of my finger. I took my ring back to Bauers that Monday and advised her it was still too big and needed a smaller size. She then resized my finger and told me I needed a 4.5. She got the paperwork together and then told me that I would have to pay the 86.00 again to have the ring sized and resoudered. I asked her why on earth they would charge me again when she didnt size my finger to begin with..

The lady had refused to help me after that and told me there was nothing she could do about it since I tried my ring on after I left the store!!!!! Give me a break lady!!! I know absolutely nothing about ring sizing so if I had known I originally needed a smaller size, I would have told her. Ring sizes are a lot different than jean sizes!! Seems to me, she sized my finger wrong so I would have to pay twice to have it sized correctly... Rip Off!!!!!

I am new to this web site, so some 6 years later after this accusation, I am now responding.  When a customer comes in for a ring sizing, we offer sizing gauges to see what size the customer would like, if they do not state specifically what size they would like.  We simply hand the ring sizers to the customer and they try on the various sizes to see which size fits their finger.  Some customers like a very tight fitting ring, while others have a fear of a tight ring, and prefer that it is looser.  Thus, WE NEVER tell a customer what size they should have.  They tell us.  This customer told us what size she wanted and we obliged by sizing her rings to the size requested.  Evidently, she felt that this size was too loose and thus came back to be sized down again.   We clearly tell our customers that further ring sizings (whether the next week or a 3 years later) are done at an additional charge.  We, nor do I know of any jeweler, do lifetime sizings on the same ring for one simple charge.  

Again, let me state that some folks like a looser fitting ring and some want a size that barely fits and looks uncomfortable to the average person, but it is how they like the ring to fit.  Thus, the customer tells us what size they want, we do not tell them.  I am sorry that this customer feels she was "ripped off" , but additional sizings are done on a per charge basis and the same labor and material must be used again to resize each of her rings the second time.
