The reason she was approved in the first place

AUTHOR: C In Texas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 01, 2008

Cox's Credit Checks are not instant, they often take a day or so to get the results. Cox will approve the order pending a credit check. My assumption is that when Cox found that she was trying to defraud them, they denied her services. I don't feel Cox did anything wrong.

Cox did not treat there Acct with disregard they simply found an outstanding bill from them and decided not to offer their services until the bill was paid , and I'm sure that if the OP would of asked Cox if they could set up a payment arrangement with them they would have or at least tried to work with them on the dept.

Just be glad their dog didn't have a SSN. I also noticed Lisa badmouthed Cox on another ripoff report, just saying how bad they were without any specific complaints.

FYI...Lisa..Cox will work with you if you are HONEST with them!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 15, 2006

I was a Cox customer in several different states and fell on hard times and could not pay bill in full. I told them of my situation and documented it in writing. They let me make partial payments for 6 months and never sent me to collections.

After that in another state, I opened another Cox account with absolutely NO DEPOSIT!

Cox is more than fair if you are fair to them.

You are mad because you tried pulling a scam and got caught. That is obvious.

And using false identity or the identity of a minor is both unethical and illegal. Cox could prosecute you for fraud if they felt like it.

Consider yourself lucky.

Cox did nothing illegal. Get over it.

As a stock holder in DIRECTV, I am concerned that the new account will be treated with the same disregard that the Cox Cable account was.

This happens all fo the time

AUTHOR: Troy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 14, 2006

Just to let all of you know. I am a Comm Tech for a cable co. in indiana, and this kind of thing happens all of the time. The cable co. or any other co. that provides a service to a consumor has the right to decline to offer the service due to a past bill not being paid even if it was over 3 years ago. Even if they agreed to hook it back up after your initial payment but then later declined to because they found another old outstanding bill that you had ran up and didn't pay. And by putting the Acct in your daughters name, not only is that fraud but you also could have shredded your daughters credit standing before she would even be old enough to use it, which just let me add is very poor judgement on your part. And to Mike we all know that you work for a dish company or used to by your other posts.
To finish up here my main point is "JUST PAY YOUR BILLS" and this kind of thing can be avoided. There is no point in calling them liars because they probably didn't find the old bill until later, and they ended up telling you about it on the phone.

Doug: Look Up Sarcasm in The Dictionary

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 29, 2005

Look up sarcasm in the dictionary. I pointed out that she had "not one, but two" unpaid, passed due accounts. I also pointed out that she attempted to commit fraud on the cable company by putting the new account in her daughter's SSN. It's interesting what flys over some people's heads.

OK Lisa's clan is a bunch of deadbeats, but...

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 29, 2005

I agree that it appears Lisa's family was trying to sign up in different household member's names in order to continue to get cable without paying all the bills for it. I agree that the company can demand payment of as much as they want, including "voluntary" payment of other cable debts that are not in the person's name but they feel are associated with her household, before restoring cable service.

But the problem Lisa and I see as a rip-off is that after demanding and accepting such payment, they did NOT turn the cable back on as promised.

This is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

AUTHOR: Doug - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 29, 2005

Lisa is trying to scam the cable TV provider (FRAUD I beleive is the word) and Cory is defending her?

Come on!!! If I were the cable provider I would require payment of all past due monies and then charge a LARGE security deposit to turn on anything!!!

Why is Cox any different from a credit card company or any other creditor? You think Capital One will just give you a new credit card after you stiffed them a couple of years ago? No Way!!

Besides, Cable TV is hardly a necessity. Get a grip, Lisa! Pay your bills and quit trying to scam the company so that the rest of us have to pay higher bills for a LUXURY ITEM such as cable.

Stood up by the cable guy

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 28, 2005

Her main complaint is not over having to pay old bills, but that the company quoted her an amount to pay to get the cable reconnected, she paid that amount, then the company reneged. That is deceptive debt collection.

Cable companies are purportedly regulated by the local government and they may be limited by law as to how far they can reach when blacklisting a customer over family members' unpaid bills.

Not only that Doug..

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 27, 2005

But she admitted to fraud! Putting this in your childs name IF she is a minor is fraud. (and yes, she did not say the child was a minor), but as a former collections manager,I have to say the above mentioned is a common pratice.

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 27, 2005

Shame on them. You put the new account under your daughter's SSN because you had unpaid balances on two separate accounts. They lied to collect on not one, but two unpaid accounts before they would let you open up a new account. The nerve of them. Shame on them. Bad company, bad company.
