The U.S. Government Accountability Office has showed overwhelming evidence that DeVry  and for-profit colleges encouraged fraud and engaged in deceptive marketing practices.  Applicants were even encouraged by college personnel to falsify their financial aid forms to qualify for more aid. Federal law requires career education programs that receive federal student aid to "prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation but for-profit college recruiters significantly exaggerated average salaries for the degree programs and certificates they provided.

The for-profit college industry and its highly paid lobbyists continue fighting to weaken the proposed rules so exploitative
businesses can keep profiting from students federal aid money

Its time to rein in unscrupulous for-profit colleges and protect students and taxpayers. Define gainful employment now so we can finally regulate these deceptive career education and training programs and establish desperately needed industry standards.

DeVry University is not a school it is a scam. They lure you in with the prospect of an easy and faster route to a college degree that will improve your earning potential. That's the bait and it's a trap.

You'll end up with at best with a useless education and a worthless degree and plenty of debt youll owe Uncle Sam.

Most of your earned credits won't transfer to another college since they are well aware of the poor quality of education at DeVry.  The list of would be employers for DeVry graduates are deceptive too since none of them will hire you without prior experience of at least 4 years with a proven track record. Reputable companies will call your previous employers for proof of your work and wage history detailed on your resume. My DeVry degree did not even get me an entry-level job at any of the companies on their list.  Top of the Deans list and now I work in the service industry paying off my huge debt to Uncle Sam who paid the thieves at DeVry. DeVry robbed of a real college education I could have gotten elsewhere in 4 years by their deceptive advertising and lies that their education is superior and get their graduates into the highest paid industry jobs within 6 months of graduating. All Lies!

Devry degree is worthless again

AUTHOR: hoapres - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, April 07, 2012

The mere fact that Devry was splashing the AOL mail welcome page with "...is an olympic hopeful and a Devry University Student...", "...Devry offers programs in the following demand fields..." along with posting an ads at the Fremont, CA to enroll at Devry for technology programs says it all being that if a college has to advertise then it is not worth very much.  Only problem is that tech employers won't look at a Devry graduate.

If you have to take written tests to get a job then that should be pretty obvious that Devry is not considered very worthwhile.

gotta work at it

i agree DeVry does nothing to help land a job, other than allowing companies choose people to interview at campus. every single job i got I had to take a test to prove my skills, my current position took me 3 written tests, 1 hands on test, 1 formal interview and then a drug/health screening. your not gonna get your degree and then get a large paying job right away with no experience. it also helps to have good references and/or recommendations. there are lots of people out there with more experience than you and those people will be more in demand so as you get more experience you will be worth more to an employer.

Bull? Maybe so - Then Again, Maybe Not

@GeorgeV  You stated you've  been employed now for 20 years with only small gaps inbetween. That's great. Consider yourself fortunate. So you graduated  DeVry over 20 yrs ago? Seems a long time and everyone knows how businesses change dramatically over time. Ive heard job interviewers say they wouldn't hire applicants from for- profit schools either  like from  University of Phoenix and  DeVry unless they can prove their skills before being fully hired. Everything looks good on paper  but companies making sure they're hiring the best skills out there especially in the current job market where they can pick and choose through many applicants. One job opening can have up to and over 500  applicants in the high tech field. The news has been reporting on the high number of students leaving for-profit schools who are not any more hirable with their degree than if they worked their way up the ladder.  Train as you go and the company is assured their employees have the skills they want. Times have changed since 20 yrs ago and there are many companies not hiring people with Master's and  20 yrs of experience if they are over age 45,  have any negative credit history (foreclosures or credit card default),  and many do extensive background checks and contact previous employers. DeVry also advertises that their graduates are employed within 6 months or less. Maybe 20 yrs ago but hard to believe that nowadays.

Devry degree is worthless

AUTHOR: hoapres - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, April 06, 2012

I have been involved in many hiring decisions and resumes with for profit schools such as University of Phoenix, Devry, Heald, ITT Tech are immediately sent to the circular file unless you have relevant experience.  If you are currently working along with the employer paying for the degree then going to Devry makes sense.  Otherwise it is a waste of money.

I have a degree from DeVry and paid my loan off in 3 years from proceeds of my new jobs.

I did start low and worked my way up the ladder, now I am making well over 80K/yr. my credits transfer just fine. if you took a low paying job that's on you. I have been employed now for 20 years with only small gaps due to me not looking for work. You gotta make it what it is its not gonna fall in your lap.

Devry university degrees are worthless and is considered a joke

AUTHOR: hoapres - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, April 05, 2012

Devry splashes the AOL mail page to "lure in the suckers" into the booming fields of high tech.  If a college has to splash ads then it can't be very good.  Devry diplomas are considered worthless in the high tech industry.  Relevant gainful employment is defined by the institution.  If you get a part time job as a cashier for $8 an hour then that is considered IT employment as the cash register is considered a computer which you program.
