I joined this cult in the early 80's, thinking it was a legitimate "spiritual path". In 1998 I got on the internet and found out the truth, that this cult was started in 1965 by a former Scientologist (another "religious" scam) who plagiarized the cult's "holy scriptures" from books written and published by many other authors, including Alan Watts, Neville Goddard, Walter Russell, L. Ron Hubbard, Helena Blavatsky, Julian Johnson, Ouspensky/Gurdjieff, Hazrat Inayat Khan, Kirpal Singh, Lama Anagarika Govinda, and probably many others. They've even stolen from the Bible, and claimed the 25th Psalm was "dictated" by a fantasy "eckmaster" named Lai Tsi, renaming this Psalm "Lai Tsi's Prayer", and getting away with it because few people can spot the theft.

The cult's leaders have been aware of the plagiarism since at least 1979, when they threatened to sue two college students who wrote papers exposing this cult's lies. Instead of coming clean and admitting to the lies and deceit, to this day they're still trying to prevent current cult members and potential recruits from learning the truth. And even after they learn the truth, many eckists are still too brainwashed to leave, plus they've been indoctrinated with threats such as:

"Woe be unto him if he does (resign), for it is known among those who have reached these lofty heights and witnessed the consequences of the few who have. Those few have found that spiritual decay sets in immediately, affecting the health, material life and spiritual life, and brings death more swiftly." Paul Twitchell, Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad #2, pg. 166:

At the very least, this cult should admit the truth publicly and apologize. And, they should at least refund the membership "donations" that innocent, trusting, but gullible people foolishly kept paying - some for as long as 30 years - before they learned the truth and walked out in disgust.

They are a cult, and liars to boot. Don't get involved. You will definitely regret it, as the OP stated.

There is proof that Eckankar is a Fraud, but no proof that it is legitimate

AUTHOR: Harrison - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 08, 2008

Eckankar is a fraud and so are its leaders. Unfortunately, most of its members are well-meaning individuals who are being misguided and lied to. I was one of them for 12 years until I did extensive research to prove that:
Paul Twitchell, founder, plagiarized (stole without giving credit) volumes of writings from others. Further, he claimed many of these experiences to be his own by changing names and places to suit his story.

Eckankar's books and literature are riddled with inconsistencies, contradictions, lies, veiled threats and other nonsense.

Eckankar's leader Harold Klemp is a former mental patient who pretends to be a prophet, a holy man, and one who is invested with supernatural powers. None of this is provable.

Eckankar's back story and writings are borrowed here and there from other groups ranging from Indian cults and paths to Scientology to Buddhism. It is an ecclectic, confusing, contradictory and nonsensical fabrication that any learned and experienced scholar, historian, anthropologist or mythologist will recognize as a cult at first glance.

Eckankar's thefts, threats, lies, cover-ups and methodologies are easily provable, yet current members refuse to study them objectively because they threaten core beliefs. All attempts to legitimize Eckankar must ignore the facts about the group's dishonesty and manipulation.

Paul Twitchell, founder, was a backwoods, half-literate sociopath condemned by his own family.

Harold Klemp tricked and defrauded his predecessor Darwin Gross, who was just another in a line of snake oil salesman like the other two, to take over the group's money and the seat of power. This act was then sold to the members as a spiritual takeover.

Any expert in psychology can explain the "inner experiences" of Eckankar as psychological phenomena. For instance, if you were to stare at a photo of any person day after day, you will have dreams with the person depicted. If you keep people on your mind, you will see them in your thoughts and dreams. This does not make them spiritual or in possession of power, it is just proof of the workings of the mind.

All good "inner experiences" such as dreams, thoughts and contemplations are welcomed as part of the "eck" while negative ones are those of the kal, eckankar's devil. Yet, this is merely an arbitrary judgment to keep the eckankar follower from exercising and experiencing his own thoughts and dreams in a real, objective light. It is psychological manipulation.

The word HU, sung by eckists, was written about in the sufi poet Inyat Khan's book and stolen word for word by Paul Twitchell. This book by Khan can still be found in bookstores. Twitchell's plagiarism is obvious. The only power that hu has is what the individual infuses into it. Like all other eckankar teachings, rituals and words, there is no proof for substantiation other than a lot of people agreeing with one another that the leader, a former mental patient who had an affair with, and married, his secretary, dictates to his blind flock.

Harold Klemp lives in secrecy because he is a liar, a thief, a manipulator, a con artist and a fraud. How can he live with himself? He is most likely a sociopath who is raking in a lot of money at the expense of others. He never appears in public where he would be put in his place and exposed for what he is.

For twelve years I defended eckankar against accusations of family and friends until I discovered the truth and compiled more than 300 pages of proof to show that this is not only a cult but a way of life for the deluded and susceptible.

There is so much more that can be said if only there was room. If you are in eckankar you are being deluded. If you are deciding whether to join, then it's best to take a course or two on comparative religion, mythology, psychology, sociology and anthropology. This should open your eyes enough to see that eckankar is just one in a million of other cults doing the same thing to greater and lesser degrees.

Eckankar is a legitimate spiritual path

AUTHOR: Fred - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 08, 2007

Eckankar is a legitimate spiritual path to me. I have been a member since 1973.

I do understand your concern about the rebirth of this teaching in the physical world during the turbulant sixties. It took awhile to defeat the negative powers which tried to hold it back, but now Eckankar is a worldwide spiritual path that many souls have yearn for but could not find. Nothing is perfect in the physical world not even the greatest of spiritual teachings. Throughout history every major religon has experienced negative circumstances, conditons and
obstacles.

The key to Eckankar today is a strong leader, Sri Harold Klemp the Living Eck Master. Eckankar is both an inner and outer teaching; Sri Harold Klemp is both the inner and outer master. You can test this for yourself. Just sing HU like the word hue, sing it on the outer breathe, hold the sound for 5 to 15 seconds then start again. Try doing this with your eyes close while sitting in a quiet room. Do this for twenty minutes a day and you will soon have your answer. "Baraka Bashad"... may the blessing be.

Legal Notice.
The above opinon is from an individual (myself) and is not endorsed by Eckankar and/or any of its Satsang Societies. The words Hu and Eckankar are trademarks of Eckankar Religon of Light and Sound Chanhassen, Minnesota USA.

ECKANKAR is a legitimate spiritual path

AUTHOR: Jari - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 14, 2006

I am a longtime member of this teaching (28 years) and do not agree with Sharon's statements at all. I am not an employee of ECKANKAR and I speak only for myself.

ECKANKAR is an individual spiritual path which is not right for everyone, yet there are thousands who find that it confirms experiences that they have already had before ever hearing about it. I am one of those people.

ECKANKAR has never demanded money of me, has never intruded on my privacy in any way, has always made clear that whether one stays or goes it is truly up to the individual and one leaves with the blessings of the Living ECK Master.

The quote referred to in the report from the Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad refers to those traveling the high road of Soul, not the physical path of ECKANKAR. There are no threats made to anyone, ever.

There is no "multi-level marketing" involved. Over and over again we are reminded that a person's spiritual beliefs are up to them and not to intrude in any way. As individual ECKists, we share information with those who express an interest, but do not foist our views upon anyone. ECKANKAR makes the teachings available to all who have a desire to learn more.

Finally, as we all know, information on the internet is not always accurate. Plagarism is a harsh term for writings which reflect the truth which underlies all spiritual paths. Since this path is based upon this underlying thread which exists in all things, it is no wonder that people see commonalities in thought.

Many, if not most, ECKists have had profound experiences with the ECK masters (yes, Lai Tsi included) and know them to be real.

I invite anyione interested to learn more about ECKANKAR directly from its legitimate web site: http://www.eckankar.org.
