4/1/09 Verizon bill (ILD Teleservices) reflects $14.95 Fone Right Voicemail Mthly Fee. Never heard of the company. Called Fone Right Inc. at 800-433-4518 they agreed immediately to block the account so that future charges would not appear but referred me to a second # 888-568-6369 to request credit for billing. Called the second number and they also agreed immediately to credit the account. Fone Right claims that the service was signed up via internet through some grocery coupon program that I never heard of and when I tried to determine what other information their records showed (so that I might be able to backtrack where the fraud began)...surprise...the call was dropped. Real upset that Verizon has allowed this third party billing!

In response to ILD's response: Our phone bills are *not* credit card statements.

We have also had unauthorized charges appear suddenly on our phone bill and are having to waste valuable time and resources in getting this situation rectified. It is amazingly frustrating.
In our case, ILD's 'customer' is a business we can't even locate. There is no website or contact information that we are able to find for the business or for the service that is showing on our phone bill for $50/month.
Reading the ILD response to this Ripoff Report, I had to laugh. ILD counseling all of us on how to avoid cramming? Left off from that list were two very important steps: 1) Reporting the unauthorized charges to the FTC, Attorney General, Better Business Bureau, etc; and 2) Calling your phone company ASAP and having a "Bill Block" placed on your phone account(s) immediately so this can't happen again.
ILD considers our phone accounts to be credit card accounts. And, in fact, on another website page (link below) loaded with reports of fraudulent charges by ILD, an ILD employee clarified what ILD does:
"...ILD Teleservices is a convenient and secure payment method designed for purchasing on the web or over the phone. Like a credit account, ILD provides the flexibility to buy without using your credit card. Hundreds of businesses offer Bill to Phone payment from ILD, giving you a way to pay by charging your phone bill... "
Since when did we all ask for our phone account to be turned into a credit card where we had to search with a fine-toothed comb for unauthorized charges each and every month? I know that I never did. Never once have I wished I could charge goods or services to my phone bill.
I hope to soon see regulation preventing this. It is so hard to believe that it's legal.

Ways to protect yourself from being crammed

ILD recently posted an article on what you can do to protect yourself against cramming. Here's a summary, but you can read more on our blog at www.ildteleservicesblog.com.
Like any bill, it's important to closely review your phone bill each and every month because whether it's your phone bill, credit card statement, electric or cable, sometimes charges end up on your bill that you should question. Your phone bill should be treated like any other purchase you make, so take a few minutes each month and closely review all of the charges, just like you do with your bank statement and credit card statements.
Here's some great advice, courtesy of the FCC, on how to protect yourself and save money.
Ask yourself the following questions as you review your telephone bill:
1) Do I recognize the names of all the companies listed on my bill?
2) What services were provided by the listed companies?
3) Does my bill include charges for calls I did not place and services I did not authorize?
4) Are the rates and line items consistent with the rates and line items that the company quoted to me?
