Gibson Truck World tells consumers to BEWARE of the wolf in sheep's clothing, but what they actually mean is beware of them.

I bought 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 from Gibson Truck World that they claimed to have very little rust.  What they did was they covered it all up by painting over it.

Now it is August, just 5 months later, I have rust making the paint bubble above my rear tires on both sides of the truck.  I have spots of rust that has eaten all the way through the paint on the lower back corners of the cab, I spent $1,200.00 on repairs caused by rust.

I can quote the salesman of saying the condition of the rust on the truck, because as soon as he said the truck was from Canada, I asked how much rust did the truck have.  After talking with some of the people from the dealership I discovered one of two things happened: first is that the salesman straight up lied to me or two is that it is the business policy of Gibson Truck World that they cover up things like this before the trucks reach it to the sales staff.  That way the salesman can say that he didnt know.

I dont care which it was, what I care about is getting the situation resolved and if I cant I want to put it out to as many people as I can that Gibson Truck World is as crooked as they come.

A little about me.  I am an officer in the US Army, and I graduated from one of the top military schools in the country The Citadel; all I wanted was to buy a truck that I could rely on to get me from base to base.  I wish I did not have this problem...

both parties are at fault

the buyer should have done his homework on the truck before signing papers, 1: get a warranty in writing that will hold up in court.
2: never buy anything as-is unless you get a certified mechanic to verify any issues and look over the truck. 3: dont buy crap from used car salesmen.

used car salesmen know everything wrong with the vehicle and will cover up the issues so you make it off the lot with that piece of paper that reads "as-is". i heard stuff like asprins in the battery and banana peels in the transmission for a few doosies.

any decent car salesman will back up their sales with a warranty of at least 30 days. if they are using the as-is tactic go elsewere.

obviously the seller knew the rust was there since he mentioned it but could not have known the extent of it, he should have passed on that auction when he bought it to resell it.

selling junk cars gets no awards and may lead you to jail or a lawsuit.

if i was a used car salesman i would seek out the best cars and only sell those, i would like to keep my company in business.

At Gibson, we earned the top award of 18th place out of all the Independent Dealers in the US out of 37,717 for a reason!

We have the highest quality trucks at the lowest prices PERIOD.  We are, and always have been, open and honest about our inventory and do not hide anything to make a sale.  The claim they will get a truck in, hide it in the body shop and fix major damage and/or major rust issues is a bold-faced lie.  We NEVER purchase trucks that have been in a major accident and we NEVER purchase trucks with rust.  There is a reason this ex-employee no longer works for us, and it was not because he chose to leave.  We have a high standard for our truck specialists and some employees just dont make the cut.

The statement Only recently they have started having "internet specials" is also untrue. We have ALWAYS had 4 or 5 trucks as internet specials or behind the fence deals as we call them, which any true ex-Gibson employee would know, available for those customers that tell us they dont need a serviced truck or a truck with new tires.  Offering these specials at wholesale pricing has nothing to do with trucks that require excessive repairs; this is just another option we offer to fit the needs of our expansive range in clientele.  We average selling only 1 or 2 of these trucks per month and are ALWAYS racked on the lift and safety inspected.

We spend $15K per month in CSI (after purchase customer satisfaction) for our warranty
program that is valid across the United States.  The statement I have had customers leave the store and not drive 200 miles without occuring a major mechanical failure, only to be told they have to pay 50% of our "internal costs", not the true costs of getting the repair completed. Once again we can only see this is a sad attempt to tarnish Gibsons exceptional reputation.

We spend over $250,000 per month inspecting and serving our trucks. It is mandatory for our truck specialists to give each customer a tour of the shop and at any time our customers are welcome to visit our Body Shop and watch us paint flares, bumpers and tailgates.  Gibson Truck World employs a full-time staff of Certified Mechanics to fully service and repair our trucks.  We have over 65 employees including 8 technicians, one alignment specialist, one tire specialist, one shop manager, one shop foreman, 3 parts & service writers, and two service advisors plus detailers and body shop staff - all making sure that customer gets the highest quality trucks. Nobody invests this much time and money like we do.  In fact, customers tell us that we come so highly recommended that they dont even look at other dealers, they just come straight to us! 60% of our sales are repeat and referral customers. That right there speaks for itself.

Gibson Truck World only hires profession staff with the highest integrity to protect
our customers and our dealership.  We run a very tight ship.  We have ZERO tolerance for cheap sales tactics and if a salesman misleads a customer THEY WILL BE FIRED.  If a staff member is unprofessional, is negligent, is lazy or lies to a customer THEY WILL BE FIRED.  Whoever wrote this report obviously had something to hide since they did not list their name.  That is why we suspect our so-called competition helped in writing this report.

As a recent, past truck specialist (salesman) of Gibson Truck World, I have to agree with Jessee, in part. While Gibson does a great job, as a whole... they will get a truck in, hide it in the body shop and fix major damage and/or major rust issues.

Only recently they have started having "internet specials"...which are trucks that require excessive repairs that they do not want to spend the money on, to make them a reliable vehicle. As a sales staff, we are supposed to take care who we sell them to, lest it be an out of state customer who may experiance the breakdown too quickly, prior to getting home.

They do a great job of "selling the sizzle", but really leave a lot to desire in backing it up, after the sale.

I have had customers leave the store and not drive 200 miles without occuring a major mechanical failure, only to be told they have to pay 50% of our "internal costs", not the true costs of getting the repair completed. Unfortunetly, this is happening recently more and more. Shortcuts will do that.

I remember the truck Jessee purchased. We were all astonished that Yves (owner) would attempt to repair such a truck and then ask the price he did.

My only regret in the time I was at Gibson Truck World is that it IS policy NOT to mention everything we knew and focus on the "sizzle", and that is what I did and misled many good people in the process.

Yes, Jessee, Gibson is the Wolf and the customer is their sheep!

Sir, go to NICB.org where you can get information about the car's past from the National Insurance Crime Bureau.  Some of it is free and some will be paid links for a modest price.  Find out if this is really a car from Canada or a flood car.

Please check this out Sir!

Just trying to Cover-up the Truth

AUTHOR: Thurman - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Im not going to waist anyones time, I am just going to point a few things you stated in attempt to cover up this and save face.

1.  The AS-IS statement; I completely understand the term as-is, but I also understand what rights I do have in reference to the Deceptive and Unfair Business Law Statute (Title 33, Chapter 501.976, p: 3)
I quote, "Represent the previous usage or status of a vehicle to be something that it was not, or make usage or status representations unless the dealer has correct information regarding the history of the vehicle to support the representations."
Feel free to read this statute, in fact I insist that you do.

2.  As far as you stating that you told me that there was visible rust when I bought the truck; the truck had just been undercoated and there was zero to a minute amount of rust.  I had a witness (Naval Officer) with me when I bought the truck that is prepared to make a statement as well.

3.  About the statement that you did not service the truck before I bought it.  That is a bold faced lie.  You might want to pull invoice #107016 from your records and examine it; maybe look at the part where you replaced a rear axel seal, alignment, etc.  I hope that you performed these, because you charged me $450.75 for the "service" you performed on the truck by Mike and Josh.

4. About me buying the truck at wholesale is a bunch of garbage, because Kelly Blue Book puts the suggested retail at $19045.00 and I payed $20,095.00. How is that buying at wholesale?  Im not even upset about the price though because I understand how supply and demand works.  The 6-speed cummins is a rare truck because they have the best MPG of almost any truck; I have had up to 28 mpg on the highway.  You also try and make it seem like 120,000 miles is a lot for this truck.  Any diesel mechanic thats worth his pay will tell you that its not uncommon for these trucks to last 400,000 miles.  Which is why I did my homework and didn't buy any of the other trucks on your lot.  My intentions was to drive this truck until the wheels fell off, and why I didn't/wouldn't have bought a truck with any serious amount of rust on it.  AT LEAST NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH TO EAT THROUGH PORTIONS OF THE CAB AND QUARTER-PANELS AFTER 5 MONTHS OF SPRING AND SUMMER DRIVING IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Honestly, I do not believe I need to say anything else on my behalf, because you very effectively with four lies demonstrated what you were trying to do when you composed your rebuttal.

Which is to point blame away from yourself, bully me, and cover up the truth concerning the matter.

Gibson Truck World's Rebuttal to Jesse from NC

AUTHOR: Gibson Truck World - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Jesse, Gibson Truck World has been upfront and honest with you from the start.  We informed you that this truck was a trade-in vehicle from Canada and had some rust.  We did not hide anything from you.  This Canadian trade-in was meant to be sent to AUCTION; we told you all of this and you agreed and signed all the paperwork stating you understood.  We already spoke to you on the phone and even offered to BUY BACK your truck in order to make you happy, but you declined our offer.

We are attaching to this report a copy of the As-Is Buyers Guide that you agreed and signed when you purchased the truck. We are also attaching a copy of the We Owe statement that reads This truck is sold AS-IS with no warranties, no maintenance & no return policy.  Nothing is promised or owed since this truck was a trade-in that we were sending to the AUCTION, which you also agreed and signed yourself in two places.

This Canadian trade-in was NOT a truck purchased to retail to our customers as a certified vehicle with a warranty.  That is why we had you sign a statement saying that you agreed and understood this truck had not been serviced or repaired and why you were able to purchase the truck at a WHOLESALE AUCTION PRICE.  You were welcome to purchase any of the over 275 certified trucks that we have available on our lot.  But instead you chose a manual 2003 Dodge Cummins Diesel 2500 from Canada with 120,000+ miles and visible rust.  We are confused by your actions to try to place blame on Gibson Truck World when, as a Citadel educated US Army Officer, clearly you understood the agreement you signed.

In your report you write all I wanted was to buy a truck that I could rely on to get me from base to base.  Well, we sold you exactly what you wanted.  Your complaint seems to be an attempt to take advantage of Gibson Truck World knowing that we have the reputation of going above and beyond our customers expectations.
