I filled in a survey on Face Book and the next thing I know a sales agent kept calling me at least 4 times a week around 4pm UK time leaving messages telling me I had won a cruise with them. (Imperial Majesty Cruises) I went to the web site and it all looked very official.

On the off chance that they caught me in one day (As normally at work) The sales agent then started her sales pitch telling me about a cruise I had won departing from Florida sailing around the Caribbean which included a stop off in FT Lauderdale and then Orlando with car rental thrown into the package! Wow to good to be true.

"All you have to do to claim/secure this holiday is pay a $59 state tax which is what the state insist upon not us. Do you have your credit/debit card ready?"

I declined their offer as I said I was not comfortable giving my details to someone over the phone that had called me and that there was no proof or receipt etc. They said to me are you crazy this is a holiday of a life time for free and so on. I still said I was not interested as my better judgement said you don't get anything in this life for free. Let alone a holiday which would cost a small fortune with no strings.

Anyway a few days later a guy phoned me from the same company saying he was the girls supervisor and wanted to know why I hadn't taken up the opportunity to have this holiday and went over all the details again saying that it was mine for 269 plus 30 departure state tax. I declined again saying I wasn't really keen on giving my details to a bunch of strangers and that we wouldn't be able to take the holiday anyway as my wife is about to give birth to our first child. He then said no problem you can take it anytime in the next two years! (Wow very accommodating company) I still said no and to get rid of him off the phone I said I would talk it over with my wife when she came home and if we were still interested could we call them back to book it? He gave us the following name and number: John Stopa (001) 813 425 4906 probably a fake name but the number I traced to Tampa Florida. He also gave me another wed address that didn't work. www.myvacationmoments.com

I checked all these details out over the internet and these people are big scammers.

These people are terrible and would have quite happily taken money from me an average person who works hard for what little money I have for my family and also knowing that I had a new baby on the way. (Which are very expensive editions to any home) The American government needs to look after their own people and stop these kind of scams from happening.

I hope this helps some of you and just remember to always check out the internet first before you decide to do anything and never pay over the phone with credit/debit details unless you phone them and know what it's all about. If they give you the old line of "you need to buy it right now or the offer might not be available next time you phone then so be it as it probably was available in the first place!

Good luck & Best wishes,

Ringo

Even in the UK where I've been many time, telephones have a disconnect button. If anyone from Ramada Plaza Resorts or Imperial Majesty Cruise Line calls to give you a "free" vacation just push the button and you will eventually hear a dial tone. You would have a lot more fun taking a cheap charter flight to Spain and it would be a lot cheaper.
