I purchased a custom made $400.00 Larson door seven years ago from The Home Depot in Brooklyn Heights, Ohio. My door developed bubbles at the bottom and soon began to eat through the core of the door. The door had a 10 year warranty on it and the bottom portion ate right through the door, so you could almost see right through it. Larson's warranty was not explantory and the customer would normally believe that they would receive a complete new door with the warranty Larson Doors has. I was shocked to have found out that Larson Door warranty consisted of the customer having to pay $25 to receive a "core" only from the door. It would be the customer's responsibility to remove the hardware, Z-bar, handle, windows, screens, etc from the old door and drill holes and place the old hardware into the new core that would arrive by Fed Ex. What a joke that was! I would have had to hire a handy man to drill holes in a new core and who would place old hardware on a new door? It wouldn't be worth the trouble to get the new core.

I found that Larson Doors was extremely difficult to contact. When I called their number, I received a recording saying that they were busy and to go to the online website. When I went to the online website and tried filling out the form, everything was deleted, because there was a problem with their website and I was not able to submit my information, so I had to start all over again.

Larson doors requires a lot of information when filling out their form. The customer must take pictures of their door, the damaged area, the corner of the door where the Larson symbol is, and the outside of their door. Then, the customer must measure the door, but not the complete door. They must present accurate measurements, or they lose, because if the door arrives and the customer did not measure correctly, it's the customer's fault.

Larson Doors makes it hard on the customer on purpose, so the customer gives up and doesn't take advantage of the warranty. I found them to be a big hassle.

I called Home Depot and expressed my feelings on this and how upset I was at the hassle that Larson Doors was giving me. Home Depot said that's why they stopped dealing with Larson Doors. In spite of Home Depot not carrying Larson Doors anymore, Home Depot cared about customer service and before I knew it, they called me, came to visit my home, and placed a new door on my house from Anderson and gave me a whole new warranty. I can't express my thanks enough to Home Depot and to Dan, Frank, and the rest of the crew for handling matters in such a professional and satisfying way. Thumbs up to Brookly Heights, Ohio Home Depot.

Thanks guys!

I too trusted Larson's warranty!

AUTHOR: Jeff - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

I had a separate problem with the door closing hardware.  I have not had my door more than 6 months and the closing mechanisms have both failed.  Larson has done everything to place the blame on user error.  I came home to the door closed and the closing hardware broken on the inside.  Do yourself a favor and choose another storm door manufacturer who values their customers and honors their warranty

I have to agree with the original post!

I have to agree with the original post; I think this Larson door warranty is ridiculous. I am very handy but that has nothing to do with the fact that the homeowner shouldn't have to disassemble the old door, scavenge the old parts and re-use them on the new blank! That is absurd!!

The Larson warranty stinks and I will never buy from them again. I just had to call the factory for a second time to see when my replacement door will be shipped. I ordered the replacement door two months ago, Larson charged my credit card the $30.00, but never sent the door. IF I finally get the door, I will then have to spend a weekend removing the defective door, swapping the old hardware onto the new door (THAT should look good....NOT!!) and installing the "replacement" (for which I paid $30.00 + sweat equity).

If you are looking for a good storm door, do yourself a favor - buy an Andersen!!

I also had a Larson door that I installed on my front for just over 9 years ago with the same "Forever" waranty. Living in Minnesota, we have some harsh weather at times and my bottom part of the door had "rotted" away. After further inspection , I noticed that my exterior wood frame materials around the sides of the door had also "rotted" away due to excessive moisture collecting. This was where the storm door would normally attach to the outside of the house and the wood was just falling apart.

Anyway, I contacted Larson Door through there normal described methods for warranty service, and although it was somewhat tedious, I received reasonably prompt service for an item I purchased over 9 years ago. I too was told that they would only be sending a replacement "core" in lieu of a complete door. My reaction was also somewhat of a dissappointed nature because I thought they would send a whole new door. But after I received the core, I could see that this was the only item that was needed for a proper repair. It did take some time to take off the old and replace the new, but it was extremely easy for someone who knows how to use a screwdriver and a cordless drill.

I noticed that the author of the complaint was a "woman" and without sounding overtly stereotypish ( which is what this undoubtingly will sound like ) , this was such an easy task for any capable person that I found her "Rip Off" posting to be rather unfair to Larson Door.

Now, I realize that I cannot know her particular situation, but this repair was such a simple thing that I can't understand why she didn't just have a "friend" help her with the install. I do not work for the Larson company or have any other interests other than a disdain for people to complain about things that they do not have all the facts on. Her own words indicated that the warranty was not explanatory and she ASSUMED that a complete door would be sent. Now the Home Depot can have this complainer, which she appears to be....good luck.
