I signed up for a low-monthly-payment catalog service with a credit limit, which solicits to people without credit cards or past financial trouble. The company is called LOW PAY, INC. (LPI) - to apply, I had to pay them via e-check two payments totalling over $200, which they claimed at the time was refundable within 30 days if I decided to not use their service. Within 2 weeks I received the catalog and info packet...problem was: everything in the catalog is grossly overpriced, with unreasonable up-front down payments. Most of the merchandise is common stuff one can find in a Wal-mart, but at more than triple the cost. For what they wanted just for down payments, I can buy the same or similar thing at a nearby store paid in full. I called immediately after reviewing the catalog to cancel and get a refund - the woman on the phone was very rude to me, wouldn't let me finish saying anything, kept quoting contract statements, then told me that I couldn't get my refund because I had gone past the 30 days...I pointed out that I clearly HAD NOT gone past the 30 days and could prove it via my phone records and bank statement...then she told me that she could refund my money, but that they would then have to first withdraw ANOTHER $198.00 from my bank account for another ridiculous fee - basically, another way of saying I wasn't getting any money back. The person was very cold-hearted and eventually hung up on me. I signed up with this company and got this catalog to make Christmas shopping for my children easier this year, and instead I got ripped off over $200 from a catalog/credit company. I am disabled with children and it is Christmas time...these people should be ashamed of themselves, but I know they are not. Avoid solicitations in the mail for these sort of credit for merchandise offers at all costs. They claim to want to help you during your financial difficulties, but they will rip you off and make it worse and not care one bit!! Beware!
