Michaels Remodeling mike perry Scam artist rips off lady in nursing home como Mississippi

Mike Perry was recommended by a cousin of mine to do some repair/remodeling work to my mothers mobile home. My 70 year old mother was in a nursing home in a rehab program after being discharged from the hospital. Her home needed alot of work. Mike had done some remodeling & installed some windows for my cousin and my aunt for a reasonable price. He had attended the same church with their family for several years.

He met me at my mother's home on Sep. 28, 2013. He gave me a price of $3200 to take out the rotten wood floors, replace them with 3/4 inch PLYWOOD, and replace the insulation. $1800 of this was for the materials & the rest was for labor. He said he would need the $1800 for the wood and insulation up front. I was leary about giving him the money up front but my family members assured me that he was very trustworthy. This was a MAJOR mistake on my part.

Needless to say I met him in the parking lot of a Lowes. He gave me a contractors invoice with his company name and his address, showing the work to be done and materials. It had the date and he signed it showing I had given him the money for the materials. I still had things that needed to be removed from her home before he could start. This was on Oct 7, 2013.

I had everything moved out by Oct. 11, 2013. He was to start the work the following week. I really didnt keep up with the dates and times he was working there, at first.

They got 1 room's floors cut out on the first day. Mike wasnt there but instead 2 young men that were his helpers did the work. The neighbors said the workers took more breaks than worked. Mike told me repeatedly that he would get the job completed by my mother's expected discharge date of Oct 31, 2013. 

As time went on I realized he wasn't showing up when he said. I had neighbors watching. I started to go by before I went to work. Sometimes he would show up and neighbors said he left within 10 minutes of when i left to go to work.

When I called him out on this he became rude and tried to talk over me saying not to worry he would get it done! Oct 31st came and went. I guess it was lucky my mom didn't get discharged by then.  

He did cut out the floors in all the bedrooms and the hall, but not the kichen or bathrooms. The "wood" he used was not the 3/4 inch plywood that cost about $35 for a 4 x 8 sheet but instead a type of pressboard that costs about $20 a sheet. He completed laying the pressboard in the living room but did not install the roll out insulation between the joists like he had originally stated. He said he was going to use a different type of insulation called foam board that would be nailed to the bottom of the trailer. He had a few sheets of the pressboard that he used that he left at the trailer,but it wasnt enough to finish the job. He also installed the new front door but never filled in the gaps or replaced the trim.

He got to where he wouldnt answer my phone calls or my texts. I finally got in touch with his wife. She met me at Home Depot & purchased what she SAID would be enough pressboard to finish the job.

I was really DUMB. In the meantime he said he would install linoleum flooring, a hot water tank, new bathroom vanity,new toilet, new front door, repair celings, coat roof, fix plumbing as needed, & install new kitchen sink base with a countertop for another $2000 but would need this money up front. This part was actually before he stopped showing up or returning my calls regarding the floor issue. 

Anyway, he got a small bathroon vanity, toilet & tank, a standard door (not for a mobile home) and he broUght these items to my moms home. I priced these items at Lowes & Home Depot. They total about $300. 

I finally told his wife (never could get him on phone or text) that I was going to have to get someone to finish the work because my mother was about to be discharged. 

I learned a a HARD lesson at my mothers (last of her savings) expense. 

I am in the process of taking Mike Perry to court but in the meantime, my mother has to move in with no linoleum & I had to use my own $ to hire someone to finish the other NECESSARY repairs as I dont have enough to pay for the rest of the repairs at this time.

He did about a third of the floor job & replaced front door but never replaced trim around it or put any insulation. I gave him $3700 cash. I figure he owes me around $2000.
