 I had the same thing happen to me, even though I knew I paid back that STUPID loan I took out 3 years earlier (divorce, no cash, etc.).  Anyway, I was sent to the FBI to report it by my bank.  The FBI agent told me 4000 people have been scammed by them.  They are  a group of crooks in India, claiming they are in NY, L.A., etc.   They use internet phone service to make it look like a landline.    I got my money back and when I receive these calls now, I simply say, "Better look over your shoulder, there's a storm coming and it's called the U.S. government!"
