In September of 1997 I contracted with State Farm Myra Cuff for a Family Life Insurance Plan for myself and my 10 year old son; initially I was a walk-in customer seeking information / pricing regarding coverage as I used the company for Auto Insurance including liability coverage.  I was directed to speak with agency manager Myra Cuff who encouraged me to sign up on the spot however, I did not have enough money to pay the premium payment for both myself and my son.  Ms. Cuff encouraged me to sign anyway and he would added as a {"rider") and ( "later") when the fee was paid it would be made ("retroactive to the original policy date up to one year.")  On January 2, 1998, my son, than age 11 and nieghboring youth were reported missing; thier bikes found hidden under a bridge abutment in a nearby park.  After an extensive search by police and community advocates the boys were not found.  Upon the advice of crisis advocates I was advised to prepare for the "worse."  I placed a call to State Farm Myra Cuff Agency and was given an appointment to come in to update the paperwork.  When Ms. Cuff heard realized that I might need to utilize some portion of the policy relatively soon; especially if the children had met with a "catastropic act resulting in their death" she changed the tone of the conversation suggesting that "the company, State Farm" would most likely not substantiate the claim primarily because of what she stated was the real possibility that the child may be "deceased" at the time of the retroactive request.  Approximately one month later my child was found dead; his lifeless body mangled in water shrubbery approximately eleven miles from where the bikes were found on the morning of January 2, 1998.  In the interim family advocates contacted the agency in an attempt to assist me with funeral arragements later that week I received a condolence correspondence from State Farm Insurance Agency and a check for $13.25, the insurance premium paid for my son with a brief explamation regarding his ineligiblity for insurance benefits.  Like a good nieghbor State Farm is There....that company should be barred from utilizing that false logo.  Clearly, they are only "There" for themselves.

Not Looking For Sympathy: State Farm not capable of extending any

AUTHOR: Barbara - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Dear Sorry, the premium was indeed paid that is why State Farm issued a refund in the amount of $13.25; my son was not found until February 28, 1998 approximately one month after he was reported missing.  According the Monroe County Examiner the time / date of death could not be determined because his body was found immersed in water.  In addition, the two bicyles which were found at 4:00 am on the morning of January 3, 1998 were completely clean of fingerprints with the exception of a blonde strand of hair caught in the spokes of my son's bike.  My Son got the bike for Christmas 1997 and it was stored on enclosed front porch where my son made it a daily practice to blow the horn, sit on the bike, roll it forward as far as it could go, before using both hands to return it to the corner of the porch in which it was parked; it should have been full of fingerprints.  If the Medical Examiner and the Rochester Police Department could not determine the cause, time, date, / place of death how could State Farm affirm without question that my child died on January 2, 1998?  Sympathy is not a valid reason for the issuance of Life Insurance if State Farm practiced any semblance of a "Good Nieghbor" policy than as a consumer purchasing an insurance product that is subjective that information / documentation should have been clearly documented within the policy; it is not and for the record, I maintained my copy of that poliocy and that information is not a part of the policy.  In addition, I mailed the premium payment back to State Farm as an insult to the memory of my child; perhaps they used it to support their false adds...

I am very sorry for your loss. However, your report actually raises a questions about the situation. Had you paid for the fee for the insurance when this happened? Technically, the insurance is correct that the "retroactive" status would not be awarded because your son had passed away at the time you were request for an update on the paper work. You may ask for their sympathy to help you out, but they do NOT obligate to do so. Therefore, I am sorry for you that you could not get anything from this; however, this is not a rip off but rather a rant on somone who did not give you sympathy.
