Not trained personnel working on your cars...

AUTHOR: Debbie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 06, 2004

Its true that when you get your entire car painted at Maaco for $249 you are indeed getting "what you pay for". Matter of fact, if you read the almost-nonexistent print on the back of the estimate (or contract) it will state that you are basically choosing and "economical" paint job....meaning crappy...so be AWARE. Most of the painting they do is spraying primer RIGHT OVER the existing paint on your car and then painting over that. That's why it chips and flakes so easily. If you want them to SAND it down to the metal, that's where the big bucks come in.

What's more...the guys painting your car at Maaco are right off the street, with very little or no training at all. A friend of mine's boyfriend was out of work and needed a job quick. He answered a Help Wanted ad in the paper for Maaco, as they were looking for painters. He had no experience whatsoever but they didn't care. They put him right to work. He hated it and quit shortly thereafter. Before you get work done, ask what training the workers have and what the turnover rate is. That should send up a red flag right there, if the price didn't.

cat litter, cig. butts, and sunflower seeds

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 15, 2004

The manager at Denton maaco texas, asked me to pay in cash to help save some of my deductable. He didn't want the owner to know he was doing me this big favor. He cut back on parts, using my old parts, I had over 3000.00 in damages. It took three weeks to get my car back, and I noticed it looked like someone buffed it with sand paper, my emblems were gone and things stolen inside. I brought the car back, he rebuffed it ,but it looked like it had a cloud glase and a two year old could have done better. A while later my transmission went out, they found tons of cat litter, cig. butts, body puddy, paint chips and sunflower seed hulls seed hulls. Thanks for the big favor you creeps!

#4 Consumer Suggestion

You get what you pay for

AUTHOR: Peter - ()

POSTED: Sunday, November 03, 2002

I have a 1990 Chevy Caprice with over 200 miles on it. It still runs great but it was getting pretty ratty looking. It really needed a repaint. Given the age and value of the car I knew that a full restoration by a body shop was out of the question since this type of work would have cost $2,500-$3,000. Trades schools wiil do this type of work for the cost of the materials, but our local trade school does not work on cars more than 10 years old.

What I ended up doing was alot of paint stripping, sanding, filling and covering the body work with aerosol primer. I sanded the entire car myself with 320 grit paper, removed all badges, name plates and trim and then cleaned the car with prep sol. I then took the car to the local MAACO for the $249 Ambassador paint service. I paid an additional $40 for a coat of primer sealer.

Their paint work is not perfect, but neither is my bodywork. However the car looks good. For this type of work MAACO does a reasonable job at a very low price. If I had a newer car, a restoration job on a classic car or insurance work I would not use MAACO, but for a quickie paint job on an older car I would recomend them.

Maaco paint- you get what you pay for

AUTHOR: Nate - ()

POSTED: Monday, September 16, 2002

I had my 1987 Honda Accord painted back in 1999. The car was painted with their "Presidential" paint package. The car still looks great after 3 harsh winters and 4 blistering summers. That far exceeds the two-year life expectancy given by someone in this report. With regular washing and waxing, any decent paint job will last for years. I beleive that Maaco offers decent paint, with the exception of the Ambassador service, but what do you expect for 250 dollars? You truly get what you pay for.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Hi

I have been to maaco for paint jobs several times and I am quite happy for what I had paid,
as the above consumer has problems as they have worked on his vehicle .

Basic rules for a purchase as it looks the above consumer did not do and wants to blame on others for his own mistake for choosing the tye of work and the quality of work expected as his reqirements.

Do your home work properly before taking your vehicle for repairs. Get atleast 3 estimates from different bodyshops. Compare each item to item to make sure evething is covered on the estimate, if not ask questions. As estimates are free at all bodyshops it dosen't hurt to get more than one.
Ask for the finished product when getting an estimate on location. As for any options when provided for certain jobs like different paint jobs.

As there are thousands of variations on materials and prices different packages are made up. Ask for any hidden costs.

Get estimates from dealerships and compare how much more they charge for the same type of work and then see what you are getting at the body shop you are taking to is giving the same type of work.As always the dealerships are higher than maaco's.

If you have not done any of the above home work do not whine and complaint about the work done.

Sorry it was you mistake.

Thanks

Maaco's paint, you WILL have to repaint it in a couple years

AUTHOR: Mike - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, May 22, 2002

You guys are bitching about the quality of MAACO's paint. You got what you paid for, a cheap paint job. What do you expect for $250, a show quality paint job?

If you pay $250, or the $900, you are getting the same shitty paint, shitty body work, and shitty masking job.

Also, another thing about Maaco's paint, you WILL have to repaint it in a couple years because it holds up like s**t.
