Originally, I always had feared going into my local Super Wal-Mart Super Center because of all the criminals trafficking the store inside. The first impression of our Wal-Mart in Sikeston MO is disturbing.  Everyone who enters our Wal-Mart has an awkward feeling on account of the police patrol car parked at the front entrance.   There is always a police patrol car stationed outside our local Wal-Mart Super Center store 24-7 and hauling customers away in handcuffs several time a day. Because of all of the arrest, our Wal-Mart is operating more like the police station, then a retail store. I never saw so much police activity in this town, until the Wal-Mart Super Center opened up here. For that reason alone, I never before shopped there until recently. But being an innocent victim of shoplifting myself, I recently changed my opinion on these criminals and begin to believe that something crocked is going on here.  After my arrest my eyes were opened, and the blame of these criminal acts can be shared with a new fabrication of self-check out lanes at our local Wal-Mart center.

Witnessing the massive number of arrest at our Wal-Mart, Ive always thought that there were abnormal high number of shoplifters in this town, or perhaps something is very wrong with our local Wal-Mart store itself, or a combination of the two. This Wal-Mart store needs to be evaluated and discover the causes and circumstances of so many shoplifters.  After evaluating this problem, I hope that this dilemma can be fixed and the deviations solved because its not fair for the consumers to be held accountable for everything that can go wrong at self-check out lanes.

Only recently, I decided to enter our local Wal-Mart store for the very first time in my life. I picked up an Oral-B Pulsonic electric toothbrush. As I was finishing up my shopping, I journeyed over to the registers to check out. The lines at all of the registers were very long and I didnt have the patients to wait in a long line. So instead, I went though a self checked out lain and scanned the product along with some other merchandise. As I began to scan my merchandise, I noticed that the laser scanner wasnt picking up on the UPC codes.  So I asked for assistance, but got no response throughout the entire check out process. When it came down to scanning the toothbrush, it took several attempts before it scanned. While scanning the toothbrush, I was ready to scream because the scanner was beeping, yelling to press buttons, and demanding money all at once.

Right before I decided to give it all up and go to a normal check out lain, the machine beeped and accepted the bar code on the toothbrush.  As I was still in the store behind the register reviewing my receipt, and awkward gentlemen grabbed me and threw me into his office without an explanation. Sill mystified by what was happening, the Wal-Mart security staff manhandled me. During questioning, I found out that something went horrifically wrong with the UPC bar code stamped on the side of the toothbrush package.  Somehow, the price of the toothbrush ranged up the wrong price and I was sent away to jail for shoplifting on account of a code misprint.

Our Wal-Mart store conducted a switch and bate trap and recycled all of the merchandise that I legitimately purchased in the store, including the toothbrush, and reshelved them at my expense.  All was taken away by the store manager and never return. Because of the UPC misprint, I must pay thousands of dollars of restitution, lawyer fees, and court fee. Not to mention my dignity.  I now feel like a bustard for wanting to purchase things from Wal-Mart.  I ask for your help in resolving this matter between a Wal-Mart and me.  Thank you!

 Sincerely,

I'm sorry, you weren't ripped off

AUTHOR: cb2002 - (United States of America)

I have done absolutely all my grocery shopping at Walmart for the past 5 years.  Every time (in North Carolina and Arkansas),  there has been an officer's vehicle outfront, and to be honest, it gives me a sense of security while i'm inside the store.  I've seen people shoplift, and when approached by loss prevention, try to run.  I don't know if that's the reason for the officer to be there, but it's a good one if it's not.

I've also used the self checkout lanes at walmart (again, in North Carolina and Arkansas) and it can be frustrating when things won't scan.  Every time, there is someone there to help (that one person might be responsible for helping all four self checkout lanes, but they are there and they will help you).

I'm sorry, it just doesn't add up.  If they didn't have you on video commiting the act, then any defense attorney would have it dropped.

If it was a "misprint" as you stated, you wouldn't be paying thousands of dollars in restitution.  Honestly, I don't believe that part either, unless you've been convicted of shoplifting before and the court was trying to send a message.  Walmart doesn't "try" to get their customers arrested, but LP people are there for a reason, Walmart loses millions of dollars each year to shoplifting.

I don't understand why people post crap like this, you weren't ripped off, you were convicted of shoplifting.

Something sounds fishy about this.

All though you may very well have been detained and arrested for this I find it hard to believe that it went through the court system if things went down as you state. There may very well be a reason to have a police car posted outside  but I can assure you it is not so Walmart can have customers arrested for the pleasure of it.

If the item in question was misprinted it would be a win for any second rate public defender in court. Having worked in loss prevention in the past I have seen I have seen many people switch UPC stickers but have yet to see one misprinted at the factory.
