I enrolled in 8/2006 to attend Westwood College and graduated with honors in May/2008 with an Associate Degree in Architectural Drafting. All the admissions, financial aid and student advisors asked me why I wanted to attend Westwood. I basically said that I wanted to get the technical skills first to land a job and later transfer to a traditional accredited architecture program working my way through school pursuing my dreams of being an architect. They all agreed it was a sound plan so I enrolled in the school. A year before graduation I started the search of finding a suitable architecture program and I ran into all sort of oppositions of accepting any credit from Westwood College. Regional accredited schools would not even accept my math and science credits which suppose to be universal. I talk to several staff members about my concerns and they all said that they can not understand my situation because they are accredited and they said in fact, they have many students that came from regional accredited schools and many students from this school went on to traditional universities with no problems whatsoever. Through my extensive search across the country it came to my unexpected realization that they are 6 regional accredited school bodies across this country and almost none of them across the board accepts national accredited college credits. In fact, many schools didn't even want to see my college transcripts because of it. They is asking for my high school transcripts and to start all over from scratch as a freshman. They even want me to take again the same math and science classes. Many of these schools also informed me that all these national accredited schools knows this but tricks the students anyway into enrolling for profit. If Westwood College officials would of explicitly explained this to me before I attended then I would of went to a traditional university instead of wasting two years of my life. I hold a worthless degree with a huge debt attached to it. It is a sad day in America for such a thing to happen to many unexpected students across this country. So to continue on with my education I will have to take everything over and go further into debt to realize my dreams. Every national accredited school need to fully explain accreditations and what that means to students explicitly in an orientational format instead of shoveling a stack of papers for the student to sign if they plan in the future to transfer to a regional accredited institution. But of course, they wouldn't do such a thing because they will be left with empty classrooms all across the nation. SHAME ON THEM!!!!!

Former Student

AUTHOR: Kitty - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 28, 2008

I graduated in May of 2007 from Westwood College (Torrance, South Bay CA) campus in their Game Art & Design program. I now work for Blizzard Entertainment, makers of World of Warcraft, Diablo and of course Starcraft...enough said.

People, you will get a Bachelors, you will be taught the tools you need, then what you do with them is up to you.

They taught me Maya, 3D Studio Max, Mudbox, After Effects, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Silo, among many other programs that other colleges wouldn't.

Blame the school all you want, but what it really comes down to is utalizing what they give you. No they can't guarantee you a job but what college should? You need to let your work speak for itself.

Please be advised....Westwood credits WON"T transfer

AUTHOR: J.r. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 21, 2008

For the people thinking about enrolling into Westwood, please be advised. Westwood College is a NATIONALLY accreditted school, therefore, if one is thinking about transferring their Westwood credits to a REGIONALLY accreditted college (i.e. University Or State College) they WILL NOT transfer. Regionally accreditted schools do not recognize other colleges that are not accreditted the same way, plain and simple. I want to clarify this to others checking out this site because of the misleadings fromt the post above. When I went to college, I transferred credits easily from a state school to a university no problem. That's because they were accreditted schools. So, for the poster above to claim that schools just want your money and that's why they don't transfer is ridiculous. The reason why they don't is because National accreditation means nothing to these schools. They see Westwood credits as a load of garbage. I wonder what college the poster above says she transferred to? I have never heard of a college just excepting .3 of a credit hour. They either accept them or they don't. Please everyone, avoid Westwood like the plague.

My college transcripts did transfer over

AUTHOR: Srip978 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 17, 2008

I went to westwood college and took the basic core classes, math and science. When I transfered to a state college my credits transfered with me, not the entire 3 credits for each class but 2.7. I know your feeling on this one, Cecil but the thing I did was call each college I wanted to transfer to and make sure my credits transferred over and give that to me that in writing.

Westwood college credits do work and your teachers and advisors know this for a fact. Other colleges do not want to accept credits from other colleges because they are losing money on each class they are not teaching you. That is why they want you to repeat each course so they can make more money off of the student tuition you pay for.

My piece of advice for you is to call the institution and make them give you documentation on why the credits will not transfer and if they cannot do they, they must accept your credits.
