On Feb. 27, 2015 I terminated services with Windstream Communications due to increased billing.  They had been my provider for almost 15 years.  However, when my Windstream provided internet modem stopped working, I learned that I would now have to pay $8.41/month to "lease" a new modem.  I have never had to lease my modem in the past.  My bill had also increased just for the service itself and I could no longer justify spending over $70 for internet and a phone that charged me $.10/minute to make outgoing calls (we did purposely have it set up that way to lower our bill - not very low though).

After learning my bill would increase due to the new requirement of "leasing" the modem, I called around and found a provider who beat their prices by almost $20/month and I would have unlimited nationwide calling on my home phone.  As a result, I cancelled my service with Windstream Feb. 27, 2015.  

I called today to get the amount of my final bill and was informed that I would be responsible for charges through the end of March.  The service representative informed me they do not prorate their bills and I will have to pay for a service I actually DO NOT HAVE!!  I do not understand how they can legally charge me for a service that has already been disconnected.  After this ripoff report, I intend to file a complaint with the Better Business Burea, the FTC, the FCC, as well as the Attorney General in Kentucky and anyone else.  I was informed by the service representative that they are only legally required to prorate in two states - I intend to lobby my Congressmen in Washington as well.
