Windstream Communications, Inc, my former long distance carrier,  billed me for months after my phone service had been cancelled, claimed they lost my records, then threatened and harrassed me when they did not receive payment.

In October 2015 I contacted Windstream, as a courtesy telling them I cancelled my phone service because I preferred cellular phone service with AT&T.   Dispite my call and the fact that I no longer even had a land line phone,  I received another bill from Windstream in November 2015, another in December thru February 2016.

I contacted Windstream asking why I was being billed for a dead line and they claimed to have lost my records.  When I did not pay, I received  notices threatening to shut off phone service (for a non-existent phone) and demanding payment for reconnect fees.  Of course, at this time, I was using AT&T and had no  desire to be reconnected by Windstream.

Windstream has since threatened me with legal action and my credit has been threatened.  I have been threatened with payment of court costs over this.   I am currently being harassed by their collection agency for money I do not owe.  Prior to this, my account had never been delinquent and always paid up.

Be aware!  This company may bill you indefinitely for phone services and claim they did not know you no longer had a phone.  The excuse may be that they lost your phone records.

In Response to "As a Courtesy Really?

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 09, 2016

Sorry, but that did not sound like any type of normal rebuttal.  It sounded very much like it was written by someone who is very angry and trying to bate someone they don’t even know into an argument.

This individual needs to read things more carefully.   I was asked why I chose to terminate my services.  Consumers don’t have to answer this question, but, as a ‘courtesy’ I did.  I said it was because I preferred cellular and was going with a different company.   If this person wasn’t  focused on nit picking over every point in my complaint, attacking my personality and accusing me of having some kind of ulterior motives, they would be better at comprehending what was meant.

It’s really a bit odd that a total stranger might come across as being that upset and  concerned over my particular complaint against this company.  Large, greedy companies believe they might get away with anything.   Some people aren’t put off that easily...

I will not respond further to personality attacks.  That is not what this forum is supposed to be used for.

As a courtesy...really?

So when you cancelled service with them you figured that just calling them was a "courtesy" that you really didn't have to do?  Well isn't that big of you.  After all I guess they somehow know just by some magic crystal ball that you no longer have service with them..right?

That statement right there basically proves that there is more here than you are telling us.

For one, many times you get billed after the fact especially for usage.  In that it is very possible could have included service for the time in October BEFORE you cancelled.  Where if you failed to pay that, that bill could be considered delinquent and the action they are "threatning" could be very possible and legal.

Also, did you contact them in November when you got the bill?  Did they say they lost your records?

How about December?  Did they loose your records then as well?  How about January?  Please don't tell us it wasn't until Feburary that you contacted them.
