My complaint is that during the repair and installation of the new transmission something was incorrectly done to cause additional engine problems. There is a “knocking” sound with acceleration. Prior to the repair and installation of the transmission there was no “knocking” sound.  

On Thursday afternoon December 7th I had my Jeep towed to Broadway Transmissions in Chula Vista to have a new transmission installed. On Tuesday December 12th I was notified that the Jeep was ready to be picked up. Upon arriving the Jeep was up on the lift. Albert the estimator/ mechanic told me that during the test drive he heard a “pop”, and that the mechanic Luis Sr was reevaluating Jeep. While reevaluating the jeep at one point he accelerated the Jeep and there was a loud “Knocking” sound. That repeated faster and faster with acceleration. Albert and I were standing next to each other. I looked at him and said, “what's that knocking sound, that wasn’t there before” Albert replied, “Ya, I don’t know what that is” Moments later Albert told me that they need the Jeep for another day. That’s a sensor needed to be replaced (governor sensor). They wouldn’t be able to get the sensor and install it that day. Much to my disappointment I said fine, we’ll be back tomorrow afternoon to pick up the jeep.  

The next day, Wednesday the 13th, I received a call that the Jeep was ready to be picked up.  I arrived at the shop and the Jeep was still up on the lift. Luis Sr wanted to show me what was the cause of the knocking. There was a bolt that was used for the installation of the transmission that apparently wasn’t the correct piece of hardware. He had to shave down the head of the bolt so that it wouldn’t encounter a protective plate that covered the fly wheel. The head of the bolt was the cause of the “knocking” sound hitting the protective plate. He left the protective plate off leaving vital engine components exposed. He gave me the protective plate and blots to take home with me. Not completing the job. He also had a concern and showed me with a crowbar that there was a problem with the fly wheel. He would apply pressure and counter presser with the crowbar and the flywheel would move back and forth. That the bearings have some play and that’s why the flywheel is moving back and forth. He told me that I would need to get it fixed but that he couldn’t do it, he didn’t know how. He had another mechanic that he could reach out to and do the job. I asked him to get me his name and number and say that I would call him. I was never told that the Jeep couldn’t be driven or that It wasn’t safe to be driven. I was only told that it would need to get fixed sooner than later  

I took the jeep home and, on my way home, there was a loud knocking sound. I immediately called the shop and told them that there was a loud knocking sound and that they needed to fix it. The knocking sound wasn’t there when I dropped it off. During their assessment of the Jeep there was never any mention of the knocking sound. I had the Jeep evaluated by another mechanic prior to taking it to Broadway Transmission and they never mentioned a “Knocking” sound either. I told them that the knocking sound was a result of poor installation of the transmission and that one or both mechanics made a mistake and now the car makes a knocking sound. They said to bring it back and they would look at it. I had the Jeep towed back to their shop.  

I spoke with Albert the next day. He shared with me that there needs to be additional repairs to the Jeep unrelated to the repair/ installation of the transmission. I disagreed, stating that there was no knocking sound prior to dropping it off nor was there a report of any knocking sound with their original assessment of the Jeep. The knocking wasn’t till during the repair of the transmission. The mechanic unfortunately made an error with repair/ installation of new transmission. I told him that Luis Sr told me about another mechanic that could fix the problem. Albert told me that he would do the job himself, that he didn’t like outsourcing jobs to other mechanics.  He gave me an estimate for repairs for parts and cost. We went back and forth on the cause and cost of repair. We finally agreed on the repair cost of $950.00. I requested that he proceed. He then got sick (apparently) he never returned my calls or text messages. In the meantime, a mechanic next door to their shop, Junior, evaluated the Jeep. Junior told me that the crankshaft is bad and that I needed a whole new engine. Parts and labor would be 4900.00 dollars! Completely contradicting what Albert told me. I told them not to proceed with anything, that I wasn’t going to spend that kind of money on the vehicle. I immediately called Albert to discuss the new diagnosis. He didn’t answer any of my phone calls or texts messages. I had additional conversations with Luis Jr regarding the new repairs and he repeatedly said repairs are unrelated to the transmission repair/installation, I disagreed. I told Luis Jr that Albert said he would do the repair personally and for a cheaper cost. Luis Jr replied, “I don’t know why he told you that, he’s not a mechanic and he can't do the repair” He advised that we proceed with contacting B.A.R. I called and messaged Albert on 2 separate occasions. He finally returned the call and agreed with the diagnosis that Junior gave from another shop. He also advised me to proceed with the B.A.R. because we continued to disagree.  

  1. There was zero “knocking” with the Jeep prior to the transmission repair. The “knocking” sound wasn’t noticed in the original diagnosis from Broadway Transmission or from prior diagnosis from previous mechanic. Also never noticed prior from owner (Dewayne Bickers) 

  1. The transmission repair wasn’t done completely. There was a protective plate left off the transmission exposing key components of the transmission/engine for further damage.  

  1. The “knocking” sound originally was diagnosed as a bolt repeatedly rubbing against the protective plate. The correct hardware wasn’t used for the repair. The mechanic shaved down the bolt head to prevent the rubbing on the plate, compromising the integrity of the bolt, weakening the strength to hold the components in place further risking damage to key transmission and engine components.  

  1. Contradicting diagnosis from Albert and Junior.  

  1. Albert stated to me that he could do the repair himself and Luis Jr stating that Albert can’t do the repair.  

  1. I’ve asked on numerous occasions for a copy of the business license and the license of the mechanic Luis Sr, Luis Jr and Albert with no reply.  

  1. I’ve asked to speak to the owner Nancy Ana Casillas with no reply.  

  1. I contest that the “knocking” sound of the Jeep is an unfortunate mistake done by the mechanics of Broadway Transmissions when repairing/install of new transmission
