Bumbleebee Electric did a small repair in my rented home on 12/16/22.  Since the home is rented, there was discussion on who should pay for the repairs.  Kyriq mentioned that he had issues with payment from the landlord on the last job (which was made up) and that he preferred direct payment.  I paid Kyriq $177 through the Bank of America app Zelle.

After sending the invoice to my landlord, my landlord also paid Kyriq, not knowing that Kyriq had already been paid.  In addition, Kyriq added a $28 tip to the CC charge for a total of $216.  I found out that Kyriq was paid twice a few days later and asked for a refund.  Kyriq acknowledged that he was paid twice and asked how I would like to be paid.  I first said through check, but then decided that a Zelle payment was easier, since it would be a direct payment.

He told me he "went on vacation" and didn't have his work phone with him, that included his Zelle passwords.  Kyriq has since blocked mine and my wife's phone numbers and is ignoring my landlord.  We have reached out to him on Instagram, email and texting apps but he has not responded.  I would like my $177 back.

Call Your Bank. Reg E covers Zelle.

AUTHOR: Mia - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, February 13, 2023

Hi there, You have 60 days from receiving your bank statement with the error or fraud on it or 2 days if the error resulted from a stolen device ( phone/cc/debit card) to report this to your bank.  Banks have to follow lots of Regulations and Reg E is a federal regulation that protects you against mistakes or fraud that takes or deposits funds into your account by electronic means...Zelle included.

If you walk into your bank and as the friendly teller they most likely will tell you to call Zelle or they will try and tell you it's not covered.. Remind them they are required to know ALL of these regulaions and if they could look up their rules & regs and direct you to the right person. I would advise calling the fraud department of your bank instead but be prepared, the person answering the phone may say the same thing. Just politely as to  have them check it out with their boss. You will get help but don't wait too long.

Good Luck!
