A friend was sent an email from Mary Benson from LinkedIn about a job offer. The job offered was a work from home, part-time position as a personal/admin assistant for an operations manager at Consulting Engineering Services. The pay would be $726 paid by check every week. He talked with Mary and sent my information over to her to learn more about the position, where she then contacted me about the job. After submitting a short questionnaire about myself on a Google doc, Mary then sent me an email with an attached PDF of the offer letter from Consulting Engineering Services.

After accepting the position and signing the offer letter, Mary forwarded Diana Robcon's email to me and said I would be working under her starting March 22nd. I contacted Diana and she sent an email about my schedule. The first few days working for Diana consisted of submitting information provided by her into spreadsheets and making presentations. On March 27th, Diana informed me that she was out of town and had no work for me that day. On March 28th, Diana said the same thing, that she will be out of town and will not have work for me. I sent back an email questioning if I would be paid for the days I don't have assignments and when pay will be mailed out.

On March 30th, Diana informed me that the company has mailed a check amounting to $4,450 to my address and will be delivered that day. The check would be the first and second week of payment, amounting to $1,452 while the remaining $2,998 will be used for work supplies for my upcoming assignments. An email was sent letting me know that the check was delivered and to deposit it into my account. After electronically depositing the check into my bank account, I started looking more into Diana and Mary due to some aspects of the job not adding up.

The postage on the envelope for the check was addressed from a Mr. Rajesh in Oklahoma. After looking up the address, I found it was a furniture shipping company based in Moore, Oklahoma. The check itself was addressed from "Wu and Wne Realty L.L.C." in Brooklyn, New York. When I put in the actual tracking number for the envelope, it shipped out of Monticello, New York. After doing a background check on both the email addresses of Mary Benson and Diana Robcon, no information pulled up. I decided to put the actual email addresses into Google and came upon a website, Scam Pulse, where multiple people were reporting Diana's email address as a scam.

The website informed me that Diana will send a check amounting to a high amount of money, then insist that you deposit it and not cash it. The check will not immediately bounce since it is a "real" check if deposited, and she will then ask you to do money orders for the company and wire them the remainder of the money. After a week, the check will bounce and you will be responsible for paying the bank back the amount of money deposited. All email communication will then cease and you will be responsible for it.

Since I did not know this information before depositing the check, the balance was put on hold and my bank account was restricted due to fraudulent activity.
