Honda is refusing my final payment, and has actually completely blocked my account from being accessible online. My credit has dropped from 850 to the low 600s because of Honda's negligence. I purchased a Honda in 2019 from Spreen Honda. I made the final payment in March, and received the pink slip April 1st, 2020. Beginning in October of 2021, my credit score digressed. I contacted the credit bureau and they indicated that Honda Financial was claiming I had an outstanding balance. You will see on the report attached, that Honda is the only thing impacting my credit. I have attempted to contact Honda 5 times over the past few months, and they claim that my final payment never went through. I had the pink slip in hand and other documentation sent from Honda indicating that the car was fully mine. When I asked Honda Financial why I received a pink slip immediately after paying my car off over two years ago, they had no answer. Honda Financial indicates that my bank account 'cannot be located.' This bank account was the same account I put 7500$ down on the day I purchased the car. This bank account has existed for 20+ years and always had a balance above 5 figures. I even went to my bank for clarification, and they indicated that Honda Financial never contacted them and that my bank records support my stance that my account has always had sufficient funds. I informed Honda Financial of my visit to the bank, and attempted to pay off whatever remaining balance there was (even though I had the pink slip). Once again, Honda reversed my payment and is not allowing me the ability to pay off the small balance on the car, even though they sent the title. I want other customers to be aware of this sort of thing, and illuminate the absolutely absurdity that Honda has put me through by obliterating my credit. I have substantial documentation, video evidence, etc to vindicate my story, if needed. All I want to do is put this behind me and get my credit back to what it should be.

First off, in GRADE SCHOOL we learn the CORRECT way to write dollar amounts. This has NOT changed even though the dumbing down of this society is rampant. So then, the figure is $7500! All thru your report you mentioned what documentation you had but no where did you say "I HAVE A RECEIPT OF MAKING THE FINAL PAYMENT" and in reality, that is the ONLY evidence which matters. Having "X" number of dollars in the bank DOES NOT MEAN that payment was made in their eyes! Unless you sent them cash, (which I doubt you would have done), if you made that final payment, there should be bank evidence of that! Do you show that payment in YOUR written records of debits and checks? I'll bet you don't even keep written records of your account usage because if you did, you could find that payment whether it was by check or card in a heartbeat! What about bank statements? Do you ever read them to make absolutely sure every debit is legitimate? In that case, you could find that payment but I doubt you've never even balanced your account to make sure YOUR RECORDS corresponded with the BANK RECORDS and there were no bank errors or fraudulent activity. That's how smart consumers manage their accounts! Unless you can come up with direct proof of payment, the balance they claim is owed is going to stand. What if you do find that EVIDENCE of payment and that payment was made some time ago? What I would do is make a copy of that evidence and send it CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED so you know they received it. Before you send out anything, go into the dealership or any other Honda store and have a conversation with the finance manager. Tell him/her very briefly about the problem and ask if they can give you an address of their contact and you send this to them and not the general mailing address. That finance person should be very happy to help you because with your car paid-off, they certainly would like to make another sale to you! With the evidence, you include a typed or printed one page note saying because of their mistakes (assuming you already paid it) you have evidence your credit record has been damaged thru no fault of your own and you expect them to correct this thru their efforts with the credit bureaus in a very timely fashion otherwise you will seek advice of Counsel because YOUR credit reputation has been damaged not by your failure to pay but via a mistake on their part to properly credit you. The lesson here is very simple. Learn how to manage your checking account by YOU keeping your records and then verifying them with the bank's when you do the regularly monthly balancing of your account. Nothing has changed in financial management. Responsible people keep their own records, just like always when in a more common sense filled society, people kept a check register. If you would have been doing this, you would have resolved this long ago.
