This comes as close to a scam as far as I can tell.  I am writing this report so that others do not get ripped off.  I inquired about a rental property through Zillow Rentals, filled out the information as was contacted by someone named "Jabir".  Rental listing on Zillow shows for rent by owner "JB".  I went to look at the rental and was only shown the outside because I was told that there was a tenant there soon to be moving out by some supposed leasing agent who must have also been part of this scam.  I completed the lease agreement and paid for the first month rent and a security deposit - the lease was month to month with the property to become available the next month.  After cashing my check, "Jabir" or whoever he says he said that the property had been rented to somebody else because he had gotten a lot of applications.  I demanded return of the deposit and the first month of rent which has never occurred.  The property remains listed for rent.   This listing is nothing but a scam. "Jabir" or whoever he says he is is nothing but a scam.

AUTHOR: Miriam - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2022

I had roughly the same experience as Arlene described in the original report.  I viewed the property, was not allowed to view the inside, signed the lease agreement, paid the first month and deposit passed background and credit check, etc. and then was told I was not going to be rented to. No refund has ever occurred.  In this situation, the landlord Jabir (?) said he found out something from some outside source (it appeared to be a newspaper article concerning someone else)  that I could not be rented too.  This is a message to Jabir: the bottom line is that such so called outside sources do not contain sufficient identifiers to identify anyone with any (actually none whatsoever) degree of accuracy.  Not to mention, any background check whether commerical, DOJ, or even FBI are blocked from revealing certain information that does not qualify within the legal dissemiation criteria and you can't back door it from anywhere else.  The next time you refuse to transact business based upon illegal reason, watch out for who is on the other end, it mind be someone who actually takes legal action . . .
