Rented a storage unit from Great Value Storage that was broken into due to facility negligence. The camera system hadn't worked in months the gate was broken and left wide open and there was no on site live in manager. Because of this lack of security by GVS me and about 30 other units were burglarized. My loss included a spare vehicle and a lot of personal property. My loss was in excess of 10000 dollars. I thought I had renters insurance for my items when I rented the storage but to be safe I also had them add their additional protection policy on top of mine.

Two months later when I was burglarized and made the claim for the policy GVS sold me and collected premiums for. At that time I was informed  that the policy had a 2000 dollar limit and that they weren't responsible for the lack of security or failing to notify me or other tenants they weren't providing the security stated in the contract. Well after I got the Missouri attorney general involved they wrote a letter to the AGO admitting that I had a valid loss of over 10000 but they were only responsible for 2000 due to the policy limit I purchased through them.

They sent a verification that there was a 2000 dollar payment that had been cut and they were holding and would release it to me when i signed; a full release. Well after i signed and returned the paper GVS still never sent the check. I have been fighting with them and begging the AGO to force them to release my money for over 2 years now.  After the AGO did an investigation and asked for an explanation why they wouldn't release the money I was told by the AGO office that the insurance policy that GVS has in place is underwritten by an overseas insurance company (Lloyd's of London) and because of this the state of Missouri has no jurisdiction over GVS to force them to pay me the money they openly admit to the AGO they owe me.

Also the state of Missouri knowing this allows GVS to continue to transact business in Missouri and allows them to forceably require renters into these worthless policies when renting storage units. This to me is a crime being perpetrated upon the citizens of Missouri and any other state that allows this to happen. Missouri AGO is supposed to protect citizens from predatory companies looking to ripoff their citizens but obviously there is a different agenda in the state of Missouri and whatever relationship it may have with Great Value Storage. Shame on you AGO
