On I traded in a 2017 Rogue Sport and I wanted to do a trade for their 2015 GMC Acadia. I had cash in my pocket if there was a difference and was even ok to finance if there was a bigger gap than what i had on me. They told me the banks were closed so then they pushed this other vehicle on me. It was another GMC but a Terrain. I knew nothing about it but I took it on a quick test drive and I liked it. Not as much as the Acadia but I was really tired and it was the end of the evening. It was a bad decision on my part but in my defense, I work 2 jobs and go to school, I don't have time or the money to be messing with this stuff. I have to trust that the businesses that i deal with are not in the business of outright scamming me. I mean, I looked right in the sales man's eyes and face and asked him if it was a good car and would get me through the winter and he looked me in the

eye and said yes. Within 1 day it was burning oil. And within 1 week it is just dying randomly while I'm driving no matter how fast or slow I'm going. Plus, it's supposed to be brown according to the paperwork but the vehicle is gray. Hmm... It's throwing 7 different codes when it's plugged in to see what's wrong with it.

When I went to talk to them about this they offered me these 2 options- Recommendations to a shop to get the car fixed or $900 for a trade in. $900 for a trade in on a car that 2 weeks earlier they charged me $7,000 for. Numi or Nuri whatever his name is had the audacity to offer me $900 dollars after he just lied to my face and sold me into this junker. And his responses to my accusations were so canned and ready to his tongue you know be has to say them often which means he lies to all of his customers. Just not all them catch him or realize.

Also, my trade in was $7200.50. The Terrain was $6,950. And they just called it a wash. I want my change of $250.50 plus a running car.

Couple of tips

AUTHOR: Flint - (Afghanistan)

POSTED: Thursday, October 19, 2023

First, never trust anything any kind of salesman tells you.  There is a reason "used car salesman" has a perjorative connotation.  They will tell you anything in order to close the sale.  How the hell would a salesman even know what condition a car is in?  They are not mechanics and the car probably came there straight from the auction the day before.

Second, I have no idea why you would trade in a 2017 vehicle for a 2015 vehicle.  Going from Nissan to GM is NOT an upgrade.  Any GM vehicle over 10 years old is a junker by definition.  There is a reason they only offered $900 for a trade-in, that's only slightly less than what it's actually worth.

Third, I don't know why you wouldn't look at blue book to figure out what the vehicle is worth.  You got scammed on your trade-in and you got scammed on your new vehicle.  If you know exactly how much your vehicle is worth and the value of the vehicle you are buying, it won't take more than an hour to negotiate a deal.

Fourth, if you are tired and want to go home -- GET UP AND LEAVE.  The car will still be there tomorrow.  Rushing through a purchase benefits the dealer, not you.  Tell them you have to be somewhere in 2 hours.  If they waste your time, stand up and leave.

Fifth, you need to do at least a modicum of research about a vehicle before buying it.  I imagine you didn't know anything about the Terrain, how much it's worth, what the trouble spots are, etc.  You should have turned around and gone home to do some research before proceeding with the purchase.  If you did that, you would have figured out that the vehicle is an overpriced junker.

You're "Going To School" ???

What exactly are you learning??? Did they punch you out, push you around, call you names and then do it again and again? That's how you "bully" someone and not the exaggerated, over used word used today! At ANY time in this process, YOU COULD HAVE SAID "NO!". YOU could have walked out. YOU decided to stay and buy the car. Did you READ any of the documentation BEFORE agreeing to the terms? How many BOGUS, ADD-ON, PHONY FEES were added like electronic filing fee, documentation fee, dealer fee, processing fee? You simply went along with that too, I suspected. Trust. You ONLY trust somebody who has a proven track record of being trustworthy. You simply caved in and swallowed hook, line and sinker whatever they said because you don't have a backbone and now you have BUYER'S REMORSE! Enjoy your car!

Who told you $7250 for your Nissan?

AUTHOR: The OG Jerk - (United States)

1.  2017 Nissan Rogue Sport 84k miles I currently see listed at a solid $15k, so your trade was worth at least $10k.

2.  What year is the Terrain?  I'm gonna guess like a 2009 based on the price of $6950 with a gazillion miles.

Seriously, why would you EVER do this deal?  When you house hunting let me know please, I have a bridge in Brooklyn that would make an amazing starter home for you.  Get my point?

Your stuck with the Terrain now, deal is done.  Don't give them more business, patch it up and trade it at a reputable dealer and be prepared to make payments.  This time go to a real dealer.  Maybe a Toyota or Dodge dealership.
