BUYERS BEWARE!!! If you are in the market for a new built home, DO NOT USE Stanley Martin!!!  If we could give them no stars, we would! We purchased a brand-new Stanley Martin home in June 2022 and haven’t been able to move-in as of October 2022 because my husband who is physically disabled and utilizes a wheelchair was unable to access parts of the home.

Stanley Martin WOULD NOT work with us to construct a new home to make it handicap accessible for his wheelchair needs. Our simple requests were to have the doors widened to the ADA Standard of 36 inches, to change out the bathtubs with showers, so that my husband could access them, and to install grab bars to make it safe for him when navigating around in the bathroom.

We had to hire private contractors to make these changes and in doing so we discovered the poor and shoddy workmanship of Stanley Martin. There are so many things wrong with the overall quality of the home that we couldn’t list them all and urge everyone to run the other way and not purchase a home from them!!!

This whole experience with them has been a nightmare and taken all the joy out of purchasing a new home. I don’t understand how Stanley Martin Homes is able to get away with this with all the ADA laws, are there any ADA attorneys out there that can answer this question? 

Here are just a few of the many examples of problems we encountered:

We paid extra for Stanley Martin to install wooden blocking within the walls for the grab bars in the bathrooms. They DID NOT do this and just installed it into the sheet rock with plastic anchors holding them which is VERY unsafe and dangerous for my husband who is physically disabled and in a wheelchair. 

Furthermore, our private contractors found construction debris waist high in the laundry room walls, DISGUSTING!!!  This same debris was found under the tub which had to be removed and it was also discovered they did not mount the water fixtures correctly and DID NOT anchor the bathroom and hall wall to the concrete foundation thus creating a very unsafe moving wall.

We have so many additional problems to list, but this review would go on for pages and pages.  Please, whatever you do, AVOID Stanley Martin Home Builders, and take your business elsewhere.  We had to lay out so much of our hard-earned money to correct all of the problems with our Stanley Martin home.  We don’t want anyone to have to go through what we did with Stanley Martin and urge you to look elsewhere for your new home!
