Went to UMA and graduated with a 4.0 GPA in Medical Billing & Coding.  Career Services is useless, they try to get you to apply for jobs in call centers for $9.00/hour, etc. which has nothing to do with medical billing & coding.  Bottom line:  no experience, no job.  The curriculum does not even start you with the coding until after the 4th month, the simulated software for the medical office you are rushed through.

Can you seriously believe anyone will retain anything rushing you through 4 chapters a week and a full book in a month?   If you think you can be a biller/coder when you graduate, look at the job descriptions and tell me if you think you can do that?  Even with the 4.0 I am not confident I could just go in and be a biller/coder.

They are happy to take your money but when it comes push to shove, they are worthless as far as finding you an appropriate job-all you will get is links to apply to jobs that you could easily do on your own.  I easily could have worked in a call center w/o spending the money I did at this school.

Waste of time and do not recommend.  As for the CPC exam, you will be an apprentice until you work for someone doing actual coding for a year and and they fill out a removal form - can't find a job as a CPC, then you will still be an apprentice and still have to take and pay for 36 CEU's every two years.  And pay to be a member of the AAPC.

Went in with high hopes, graduate with no hope.  Huge waste of time and money.  Don't let them tell you this is the economy, either.  When you sign up they claim "this is recession-proof" and also provide you with a list of hospitals and doctors practices they have a relationship with.  When confronted with this their response is "oh, you have to apply to hospitals on your own."  Where is their relationship?  There is NONE.  You are on your own when you graduate, beware.
