Lots of issues with this dealer.

I've read other rip off reports about the finance dept. and the tricks they play... Unfortunately, a little too late. I fed into the game and got the boobie prize.
My being stupid is no fault of Kia.

It's thier job to spot a sucker and they are good at it!

When I bought my 2002 Sportage a year ago, it had 25,000 miles. The warranty I was given was 60,000 miles or until 2007. In order to comply with this warranty, I went to Kia of Riverside for my scheduled oil change and was charged $50.00 (this generously included rotating my tires). I've done this twice.

I have owned this vehicle for 14 months and have put less than 10,000 miles on it. During this past year, it has been in the shop numerous times. The Service Department is scandalous. I mean REALLY shady.

The invoices I receive do not, in any way, match what I am being told. I have taken my Sportage in 3 times because of noice and vibration. They don't hear anything. This truck shakes like hell when I step on the brakes. The first time I was told the brakes were fine. The second time, the Service Department told me that "if I wanted" they could do a brake job for me, but it would cost 3 to 4 hundred dollars and I could get it done alot cheaper somewhere else. The dealer told me this.

Ok. I had someone else look at the brakes and I was told the pads were fine, but the rotor was split. That was why my vehicle was shaking. This should be covered by warranty, you would think. The pads are hardly worn but the 'rotor' is cracked?! Manufacturer defect. Sounds good.

The paperwork said that they advised me that is was NEC TO RESURFACE THE ROTORS AND CHANGE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS. What a lie! I was told no such thing. So I went back. I was told there would be a $75.00 assessment fee and it would be 30 days before I could get an appointment.

Yesterday, my hood popped open and now will not close. I'm guessing the cable broke. This, in my opinion, is pretty much an emergency. It is a safety issue and my 17 year old son is driving this vehicle.

When I called, Kia of Riverside said they had an opening 2 weeks from today, if I wanted to schedule.

Warranty or not, this is a bunch of crap.
Class action law suit... count me in.

Sportage SUV is the worst ever

AUTHOR: RJ - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 05, 2004

Had you done your homework before purchace, you would have discovered that the Kia Sportage is the worst, most cheaply made SUV ever produced.

Anyone who has researched this vehicle is not at all surprised by the defects you are complaining about.

Why can't they get you in for service earlier? Because so many Kia's are breaking down that the service departments can't possibly cope.

You get what you pay for

You Californians are the first to embrace these thin Asian cars, as you have virtually no loyalty to the good old U.S.of A. You call it progress, consumerism, or the survival of the fittest most efficient manufacturers. Well, live with it. My stodgy old ugly U.S. GM Venture minivan has 140,000 miles on it (bought new btw) and still runs with the original rotors, water pump, hoses alternator, and has never once left me stranded. It was a couple of thousand dollars more than the the Jap and Korean imports though, but I figure I'm way ahead of the game now since I would have bought two of those shiny new trash cans to do the job that this American piece-of-crap GM has. Good luck with your Korean car!

Lemon Law

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

Because of a legal document I signed, I cannot tell you my war story with Kia, however I can advocate/advise on behalf of the consumer.

It sounds like you bought the car used, in which you may or may not be able to sue the manufacturer. However, you may be able to sue the dealership that sold you the car under the Lemon Law in the state of California.

Keep any and all records of every visit to the service department and do some research on the Lemon Law in your state. I would also look up Lemon Law attorneys in your state.

Good luck, and in the meantime, get someone else to fix that rotor, that can be dangerous.
