I accepted a two week trial with Ancestry.com, Myfamilytree.com. They offered full access for 14 days. This site freezes up frequently and was ackward to use. I frequently asked for online help and never received response. At 10 days into the membership they lost my family tree. I complained, and again no response. I decided to cancel the subscription. Each page I was directed to on the site only led me to another page. It continually loops through half dozen pages and back, deliberately confusing, deliberately fraudulent.

My thinking is the average user doesn't try to cancel until the end of the FREE TRIAL only to exceed the deadling and have their account legally billed. These crooks didn't cheat me. I e-mailed my cancellation directly to Myfamilytree.com, cc to my attorney who time stamped and notarized for an official document. I have an old school bank who disallowed the claim despite three hits and permanently blocked them. So, this post is not for revenge but, to spare others from these crooks!

Ancestry dot com is nothing but a ripoff period.Whether it's a 14 day trial buying software going to their site hoping to find information.This is a company geered on making money from you the consumer.Like most of these companies nothing is really free.They now have tv commercials selling their products so what is that telling you.I have been going to their sites for many years as I am and have been into Genealogy for more than 30 years.

Let me give you an example.You register online with a password and email address.You then receive a verification email where you click on a link to join.Once you join there is no end to the information you can add to your profile page.So now all your information is on the site.At a later date if for example someone clicks your profile and then tries to see your information that is public Ancestry dot com will allow you to see the info provided you buy a one year subscription.



 

These are crooks of the worst kind.Join up but if you decide to post your hard work you don't
make the money for it Ancestry.com does.Think about that!

I currently have a membership with Ancestry.com which is a daughter company of The Generations Network. When I signed up for my membership I read the fine print that said that my account would bill automatically after the 14-day free trial. I am in a habbit of doing this with every website I sign up for because as you all know, nothings free. Well I suppose the 14-days were ;)

When Ancestry.com bills for an annual membership an email is sent to me every year letting me know that my credit card will be billed. I find this to be in very good business practice. Also, if I ever want to cancel my membership I can do it online now. The Generations Network works hard every year to keep me happy from my stand point.

My suggestion to everyone who purchases something online (even a FREE trial), read the fine print. Why else would they ask for your credit card.
