Too Long Didn't Read Version: A store manager lied to me twice, the phone plan holder once, refused to pass my complaint to his higher up, refused to let me speak to a customer service representative, and ended up overcharging me by $50 per month for my phone plan and making me pay $109 for a phone which was supposed to be free, otherwise I would have to pay $200 to break the contract which he had lied to me about in the first place.

I had to upgrade my phone two months ago due to separate breaks accumulated over a few years. I went to store which carried the family plan I was on, and asked about repairing or upgrading, was told that I couldn't repair the phone as it was out of warranty. Somehow he knew this without looking up the transaction of the phone itself. So I would have to upgrade. And so I asked about the G1 android.

The manager, "Rico" whose apparent name is "Reuben," was the one who assissted me. I asked him about monthly charges, and he said the following:

1) That there were two options, one was $29/month, and one for $35/month,
2) that the more expensive option would give me unlimited coverage for the phone,
3) that the phone plan I choose would be replacing my previous plan,
and finally 4) that I would have to pay the remainer of my previous plan in my next phone bill, so it would be higher than normal.

I asked for that phone, with the second option, and was told that I would have to come back the next day as they were only supplied as they were ordered.

The next day, I came back, and during the transaction I asked again about monthly payments. I was again told that I was getting unlimited coverage for $35/month. Due to complications with adding my phone onto the family plan, the manager was forced to call the plan holder and ask permission. As a byproduct of this, the plan holder asked the manager about the monthly billing and said "give me the bottom line; how much will he be paying per month?" He replied with "only $35." When told that that sounded unrealistic because it was lower than my current plan, he said it was just how things were.

And so I purchased the phone with the $35 plan.

Fast forward to last week, when I get my second phone bill, at $81. I re-entered the store, and talked to the same manager. I asked him why my phone bill was so much higher than what he had told me, and he responded with "I never said that." The rest of the conversation went downhill from there, as he alternately laughed at me for believing what he had told me, told me that it was only my word against his, and that I would still have to pay the full amount.

He then said that if I had meant to return the phone, then I should have done it within 14 days as listed in the contract, which is of course what he would have done. When I pointed out that this return could not have happened any sooner than two months after the purchase, he fell dropped that line of argument entirely.

I asked to see the contract that I had signed, and there was no mention of extension of a phone plan, or anything like that. He claimed that proved he was right. And then continued laughing at me.

He then offered to call customer service for me about the conditions and terms in the contract, and he did, and he started acting shadey again. He refused to put it on speaker phone, he also refused to let me speak to the representative, and from what I could hear of his side of the conversation there was nothing in the full contract about extending or agreeing to a phone plan.

I said that the entire situation was insane, and went to look for the cheapest phone possible so that I could just move on. The cheapest phone was listed at $109, but with an instant rebate which would drop it down to free, the largest price on the tag next to the phone. I told him I'd just take that one and be done with it. He said "ok, will you pay cash or credit?" When I asked him what he meant, he said that I had already used my upgrade, I was out of the return period (already covered up above), so I would have to pay the full retail price with no discounts or rebates allowed.

I paid the money and am attempting to get a hold of some form of customer service with that company or T-Mobile at the very least to inform them of this specific manager, but no such luck finding any sort of information on that at the moment.
