A to Z Pools is a rip-off.  We recently moved to NC and purchased a home with an in-ground pool.  Rod from A to Z pools did our inspection when purchasing the home, so we thought we would continue and have him service our pool upon opening it.

Rod indicated during the inspection that we need to have a portion of the heater re-wired in order for it to ignite.  When he came to re-wire it, he indicated he instead needed to order a part for it.  He ordered it, and said it would be in early next week (4 working days approximately).  Because I owed him for opening the pool, I wrote him a check for $480 to open the pool, and to pay for the part he ordered for the heater.

A week and a half went by and no word from Rod. I contacted him several times, and finally after about 2 weeks he said the part was in.  However, he was now slammed and did not know when he could come out. He started to become very ellusive and would not give me a straight answer about when he was coming. Either he was too busy, the weather was not good enough, or the distance was too far for him to find a block of time to come. He even offered to refund my money because he could not get out to my house. 

I indicated I already paid him, so I did not want to start over with someone else this late into opening it. He already had my money, but now he could not find time to come back.  Here I am with a pool open now for 3 weeks, but no heater, so I am incurring costs while it is open, but we cannot use it because the water is only at 64 degrees. At no time did he indicate it would be hard for him to come out until he already had my money (I should have known something was up when the check was cashed within 2 hours of him leaving my house).

Rod finally says he is going to come out on a Saturday.  That Saturday, I ask him what time.  He says it is hard to say, he was thinking around noon.  We decided to run into town to do errands, but I informed him that we could be home in 15 minutes to meet him because we also had other questions, so please let me know when he was 15 minutes away from the house.  Because he could not give us a definite time, we decided it best to complete errands rather than waiting around the house because he could not give us a specific time.

At 11:50, I get a text from him that he has already been there and the part he installed did not fix the issue.  When asked why he did not let us know he was coming, he said he did not read the whole text indicating we wanted him to let us know he was coming.  I had already told him 2 other times that I needed to be home when he came.  After he came, unannounced, he said the he could not get the heater to work, but that he was not qualified to go any further.  However, his company description indicates that they can service all pool needs.  

So, here we are after 3.5, almost one month, and we are starting the process over.  Rod has $480 of our money, our pool heater does not work, and we do not know if the part he ordered was even the problem. Furthermore, we do not even know if he was actually here!  Rod was not apologetic for any of the time issues we incurred, the continued issue with the heater, and now we need to start over with another pool company to determine our issues.  

Do not hire A to Z Pools, I have never been so dis-serviced by any company I have worked with.  We were ripped off.  Pool people beware.
