Never have I encountered a repair service that totally sets out to scam you.  When we called to get our stuck garage door repaired, the tech showed up and demanded payment before even doing any work - he said eighty-dollars was the housecall fee and he would need that first before doing any work.  I was reluctant and wanted to kick him out right away but I needed to get the garage door closed otherwise I could not leave for work with it open and no one home.

I asked him several times if he can fix the problem and to give me a cost estimate but he said it was company policy to get the payment first -- then he gave me a FOUR HUNDRED DOLLAR ESTIMATE to fix what simply was a broken spring pully.  I was going through the roof - then he went back into his truck and 'called his supervisor' and somehow magically I got a hundred dollar discount and when I said that was still too much and that I would call another service - he dropped it again to where I finally said OK and reluctantly agreed - during the repair time he called me 3 times to show me parts that were not broken but he wanted to upsell me additional repairs or parts not needed.  After the 3rd time told him just do the job he was paid for - so it finally got done and seemed ok.

1 week later the garage door was stuck again and I called to complain and was told I have a 30 day warranty so it won't be an issue.  Well, the same guy came out and again asked me for the EIGHTY DOLLAR house call and then said he needed another FORTY to determine what the problem was - this time I told the guy to get of here and chased him away.  I took out my tools and after figuring out what he did wrong I adjusted the door myself and swear I  will never call A1 again and you should also BE AWARE so you don't have to deal with a money grubbing repair operation yourself - find a local repair person you can trust.
