I got to AAA Van Lines through a request for quote from the web site Realtor.com. There were several moving companies offering quotes for my move from Knoxville Tennessee to Beaumont Texas. AAA Van Lines offered me what I believed to be a bottom line not to exceed quote of $5700 which included all tariffs, gasoline costs and packing and labor.

The movers arrived early and after having made it known to AAA NOT TO TAKE A TRUCK UP MY DRIVEWAY, the first thing they did was to DRIVE A TRUCK UP MY DRIVEWAY. After destroying my flower bed after trying to back the truck down the driveway, the truck back scraped the road and wasn't able to back out without totally padding the back of the truck to minimize the damage to the road.

The movers were spanish, my guess is that they were illegals. Only the lead mover spoke english. The movers were not the professionals I was led to believe they would be. They didn't use professional equipment. No tape guns, boxes were haphazardly taped and thrown together. Moving dollies were not used, just your standard dolly you would use around the house. Furniture was not strapped down which gave me no comfort.

Several items were just thrown into boxes. Items which should have been wrapped and boxed as fragile were not while the cardboard pair of salt and pepper shakers in my kitchen were treated like fine china, wrapped and placed in a box marked fragile.

At pickup you are supposed to be charged 1/2 of the total moving expenses. My charges were $500 more at pickup than it was supposed to be, I was charged $3200.00, not the $2750 per a quote from someone namded LEE working for AAA Van Lines.

When I called AAA Van Lines to set up delivery of my furniture, I was not given a date until barely a week prior to delivery.

Furniture was supposed to be delivered on a Wednesday but AAA put 2 people's loads on the same truck and mine was put on first so it had to be unloaded last.

I called AAA Van Lines to tell them that I wanted the driver to meet me at the CAT scales in town and received no call from AAA or their driver to acknowledge this. It is the owner's right to watch the truck being weighed WITH GOODS and after move is completed WITHOUT GOODS in order to check the weight of the shipment. This is written on the back of the contract.

The movers did not weigh the truck per my request, and called me early Thursday morning to say they were in town.

The driver told me I would have to pay him $3800.00 to accept shipment of my goods. This was totally $600 above what I was told by NICK at the AAA office in Georgia. I was given no explanation for the extra charges and forced to pay or lose custody of the shipment.

The movers arrived with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver which they thought would be adequate to assemble furniture. The movers had no professional equipment such as moving dollies or knives to break open the bubble wrap and several feet of tape they used.

The boxes were unloaded onto my driveway, stacked on top of each other. Several boxes were crushed on top due to lack of adequate packing material and the quality of boxes was cheap. One box of books got wet on the truck the day before and the attitude of the mover was "so what we got it wet moving the other person yesterday".

Several boxes marked "fragile" were thrown around like rag dolls with no regard by the movers.

The furniture was haphazardly bolted together. I had to tighten several bolts and attach legs to tables that the movers were too lazy to do themselves.

The washing machine hoses for hot and cold were put on backwards.

After the move the lead mover (there were only 2 to begin with) suggested a tip for them. This is after being charged $500 above the already overcharged amount of $3200.00.

Do not use this company. Their movers are contracted at $200.00 each per day and the owner does not equip their people with professional equipment which causes the job to be done slower because the movers have to break the tape with their fingers or teeth, and because tape dispensers aren't used, the boxes look trashy once put together. Just not your top notch moving job you think you are paying for.
