your website is great!!! i've got a story for you. west boca raton aamco, in south florida. do not go here!!! in august of 2001, my wife bought her 1983 944 porsche in for a transmission problem, at my suggestion. car is a 5 speed. her car would not shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse.

i know nothing about transmissions, but the problem happened suddenly, and to me, it sounded like a loose connection somewhere. she left her car at aamco, and they told her later that day, that the transmission was bad internally, and it would be at least $800.00 to remove and inspect the transmission. she called me at work, and i told her that they were full of $###. so i called them, and the manager told me that there was an internal problem. "i asked him if he even knew what was wrong. he said, "could be synchros (b.s.-they don't fail all of a sudden), or could be clutch" (b.s.- 6 months old). this guy was just giving me a bunch of generic reasons. either they never looked at the car, and tryed to scam my wife; or they have no idea of what they are doing. i called my wife back, and said, "get the car, they don't know what they are doing".

on her way home, the car broke down in the middle of a busy intersection. she called me, frustrated and crying. i left my job, drove out to where she was, and went under her car, without a jack. i found the problem, and had it fixed in 2 minutes. a loose bolt was the only problem. i have absolutely NO TRANSMISSION EXPERIENCE, and fixed it in the middle of a street!!! AAMCO has trained technicians, and the car was supposedly up on a lift, and they wanted $800.00, for a bolt?!?!?!

AAMCO, SHOULD BE SC-AAMCO!!! it was lucky that i saw the scam in the making, before aamco had a chance to take me for any money. this is the only business that i've ever, ever had to make a claim against, and i want people to know, be aware of this chain. yes, there are good aamco's out there, but not in west boca raton, florida. USE CAUTION, AND GET A SECOND OPINION. once again, great, great service you are doing with this website. and if aamco wants to sue me, BRING IT ON.

p.s.-month later, car running perfect, thanx to a 2 minute fix.

Porsche still running...

AUTHOR: Chris - ()

POSTED: Thursday, February 06, 2014

fast forward to 12+ years later. our 944 is still running (but we did lose the a/c compressor). never had any transmission problems since that rainy day i slid under the car on the side of glades road, and tightened up that bolt underneath the car. i've changed out the fluid to MT90 for a smoother shift, and have learned a lot about the 944 since then. a book full of information.

a bolt. i would have happily paid $100.00 for your company to tighten that bolt, but you go for the jugular, don't you? quote my wife $800 to "open and inspect" the transmission. which translates to, "you spend $800.00 bucks, we sit on our azz, then we tell you the synchros are bad and the tranny needs to be rebuilt. we need $2000.00 for the repair".  once you have $2000.00+, then you might actually put the car on a lift...finally.

does anyone there own tools?

at the minimum, your employee is "challenged". but what i assume is the case, is this is a scam artist's palace.

aamco in Vally Stream damaged my engine

AUTHOR: Frank - ()

POSTED: Monday, April 22, 2002

I brought my 1990 jeep in for a slipping transmission, they repaired the transmission and and when i drove it out of the dealership it had a very bad vibration to it and gave me a very bad engine oil leak as well , i didn't even get 20 feet when the jeep began to vibrate, so i turn around and they put it on the lift and i was told it was a broken shock mount. I took the jeep to a mechanic and had the shock mount repaired, but the vibration was still there.

I brought it back to the dealership and they put it back on the lift. Lo and behold they found it was a broken transmission mount, and they fixed it, no more vibration, but the oil leak was still dripping badly.( about half a quart a day) So they towed the jeep back to the shop. They had the jeep for 4 days and they told me the installed a new valve cover gasket, a new rear seal, and an oil pan gasket. (i belive when they had the oil pan off they damaged my engine out of spite)

Now this was getting rediculous, so i told them i needed a rental so my girlfriend could get to work. I was told by the manger that the boss said "NO". So i told them i was going to call the home office and make a complaint against them. They had the jeep for 4 days and and I told them to take the jeep for a very long ride so when they pulled the dip stick they could see it was losing transmission fluid. i don't think they looked at it untill I made the threat to call the home office. The very next day i got a call telling me they found the leak, and that it was the PCV valve. PCV valves even when clogged can never leak that much oil.( within an hour there was a 12" puddle under the jeep).

I drove the jeep home and i noticed there was low oil pressure. I brought it back to a machanic and was told the engine was damanged beyond repair. So i payed $2,200 for a transmission repair only to get it back with a damaged engine. So what did i gain? I brought it in for slipping transmission only to get it back with a damanged motor. There was nothing wrong with the motor when i gave it to them. We drove the jeep upstate many times and the motor ran fine with no problems.

I kept up with the jeep with tune ups and oil changes. I called the home office to complane and ask for my $2,200 back . I got as few phone calls and made a few to them. Now i get no calls back and can't get throught to them anymore. So i got ripped off . I shoud have gone to Lee Myles transmission. I believe that when they could not find the transmission fluid loss nor the oil leak they damaged my motor out of spite when they had the oil pan off.

I was told that it might be my crankshaft and now it is my crankshaft. Funny huh?
