Since 1998 I have requested my $500.00 deductible be returned to me.  I had a claim handler who did an excellent job during the first 2 days after the accident.  A woman in an SUV was stopped in front of my car for a couple minutes.  It seemed as though she was letting a horse and carriage cross the street as we were in front of a barn in an historic district in downtown Charleston.  As I looked to see the horse, I saw her backup lights come on.  I immediately laid on my horn.  She did not hear it.  Her son said she had the music up so loud that they couldn't hear the horn.

She put the car in reverse and accelerated right into the front end on my car.  At first she told the police that I ran into the back of her as she was turning right into an alley.  I took photos at the scene which proved that she could not have turned right from where she was.

The next day the woman talked to my agent and denied responsibility for the accident.  However, the next day, she told Hartford that she was at fault.  The agent asked in three different ways to explain what happened so there could be no misunderstanding.  The agent and I were so happy with her admission.  Her admission along with the photos that I e-mailed closed the case.

3 months later I received a reimbursement check for the car rental used while my car was being fixed.  There was no return of my deductible!  I called Jaimie Hannah, the new claims handler for my case.  All she said was , sorry, we aren't returning it.  It was a no fault accident.  What???

Since 1998 I have spoken to 2 handlers, three supervisors, and supposedly a decision maker farther up the ranks.  All have claimed ignorance to the story.  Each supervisor was more interested in finding out who the successful claims handler was than doing the right thing and returning the money.  I was also questioned as to why I call.  My answer is that I am owed the deductible and that Hartford is supposed to be representing or working on my behalf.

Mysteriously, nothing is in my file!  The photos that I sent are gone.  The admission statements made by the other driver, GONE.

Hartford, your practice is dishonorable at best, management is rude and sarcastic.  AARP where is your contact number?  It is very hard to bring this to your attention when the only contact number that you list goes directly to Hartford.

15 Years?

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, April 03, 2013

It has been 15 Years....it is probably time to let it go.

While you are probably a good decade past being able to do anything about this.  What you should have done is to go after the driver in small claims court for your deductible.  Because your deductible was your out of pocket expenses and they admitted fault it would have been a fairly simple case for you to prevail.

That is as long as you hadn't signed any documents when you got the rental reimbursement stating you wouldn't go after them for any additional damages.  As if you did that it doesn't matter how much you complain you would not get a single additional dollar.

Mysteriously, nothing is in my file!
- It's no mystery..it's been 15 years.

If this bugged you that much to hold a grudge, I hope that you have at least changed insurance companies in the last 15 years.
