We are having a problem with United Healthcare Medicare Complete and their drug provider OptumRX.  My husband is a brain cancer patient and they are refusing to approve any of his medications begining 1/1/14 unless we pay them an extortion fee of $1933.94

In December of 2011, OptumRx double charged us for my husband medications.  They sent us a statement on 12/22/11 showing a credit balance of $1728.78.  Despite us making at least a dozen phone calls to the company requesting a refund, it was never sent.

In March of 2012, my husbands next shipment of drugs were sent.  The total cost was $4432.72.  OptumRx charged our credit card $2500.78 on 3/26, $1933.94 on 3/28 and $275.00 on 3/31.  This was a total payment of $4709.72; an overcharge of $277.  This brings our total overpayment to Optum RX to $2005.78.

In November of 2012, OptumRx started sending us statements saying we owed them $1933.94.  We immediately wrote back disputing the balance and reminding them that we still had not received a refund for the double charges.  We continued to call and write United Healthcare and Optum RX for months.  We requested full and complete statements and they were never sent.

The only partial statement had about 20 lines on it saying balance adjust over and over.  We requested an explaination, none was ever given.  Nor was any refund ever sent.

On 10/28/13 we were sent a letter saying that they were denying coverage for all of my husbands medications beginning 1/1/14 unless we pay $1933.94.  Why would we pay an extortion fee of almost $2000 when we have a credit with them of over $2000?

We have been calling and calling all to no avail.  United healthcare transfers us from department to department for hours, than someone will finally say that this is an internal accounting problem and no one can talk to the accounting department.  We requested an expidited revied on 11/5/13, which we are susposed to receive a response within 72 hours.  Nothing, Nada, despite repeated call to United Healthcare.

I called the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services tonight.  They said the couldn't help us because he has a Medicare replacement policy.  We went to the Florida SHINE and they were stumped.  When they entered my husbands medications, their program was showing our cost would be between $550,000 and $3,500,000.

What do we do and who do we turn to?  Someone please, please help us.  Without his medications, my husband will be dead.
