Hello, my name is Jules and I am an amateur MMA fighter and MMA enthusiast.

For years, I have enjoyed practicing MMA and other martial arts as it has been a life long passion. However, over the course of my life I have been subjected to many gyms and schools that take more pride in making money than in appealing to the interests of its clients.

Abad's Gym is one of those gyms.

Let me begin by giving you a short, yet imforative review of the gym as it has been deleted on other sites such as Yelp and Google reviews:

Abad's Gym is located in Mesa, Arizona, with other gyms peppered around the area. I was impressed with my first week trial and had decided to join the gym after my summer break, which I did. However, the gym's charming and promising demeanor was merely a facade.

Starting with the gym's schedule, the website clearly lists the times of which each class starts. While it does not seem at all unusual, the gym is actually conducted to where everyone is doing their own thing. Classes are disorganized, at at most times there are only 2-3 people actually participating in the right class.

The coaches themselves are something to be questioned as well, particularly the coach by the name of Gustavo Lindsay. He claims to have high marks and has taught military forces, police, and pro fighters. It also claims that he is Crossfit certified which I highly doubt, mainly because I have done Crossfit and what he teaches is not. In addition to that, the owners seem to be backing claiming he is when really they are looking for a Crossfit-certified trainer on Craigslist, of all places. Mr. Lindsay is apparently "the first American to have competed in the world reknown bare knuckle pro MMA tournament known as Rio Heroes in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. He was the only one without a blackbelt and made it to the finals before getting submitted in the first round." I have nothing against Mr. Lindsay, but if he really had all the credentials that the site claims, then I'm sure I would have found something other than that he was on the news for skipping out on thousands of dollars in child care.

Not only that, but the gym is not regularly cleaned nor is it maintained. Since July as I can remember, the gym has a broken water fountain that floods the hallway. It has not been fixed and there is an orange bucket and cones that have been signalling students to back off. Then there is the floor. As I can only go at nights, I have not seen the coaches nor the gyms members clean the floors ONCE. Their glove rack also carries a stench that discourages me to put them on, and the punching bag chains and bars that hold them are lose and rusty. I even watched as two of the coaches tried to tie a chain multiple times around the bar rather than to try getting a wrench and tightening the screws.

Now comes to the pricing, from which my main complaint stems from:

I remember joining around August 25th, and was told I would be charged a total of 70 dollars because I did not apply on the 15th, when the checks were due. As the days went by, I was unimpressed as well as being busy with college and decided to cancel my subscription, which I physically went and asked for. On Septemeber 10th, I checked my bank account, and 70 dollars was taken out. No problem. However exactly six days later, they charge me an additional 130 dollars for the next month. Not only did I call them to ask, but they did not answer. I had even resorted to finding the owner, Brig Burton, and have messaged him on Facebook - I did not recieve an answer either. I was angry, so I came in again in person and was told it was a mistake and that my funds would be returned within 48 hours.

They did not.

I was fine knowing that at least they would not steal from me again. however, It wasn't until today that I realized that the gym is continuing to withdraw my college funds. On Octorber 26th, Abad's Gym withdrew an additional 130 dollars. Not only am I very upset, I am thinking of filing a lawsuit against the gym. I wonder if they charge every 15th, why are they continuing to charge me on days that aren't the 15th?

Please, do not go to Abad's Gym unless you want to support corrupt owners and a failing business.

I have contacted the gym and was assured that I would recieve a refund soon. While I am still very upset, I would like to remind others that while I am disappointed with what I thought was a good place, please disreagard the last sentence on the report. I believe that all businesses should have equal opportunity and interested persons should take their own risks in investing their time and money as well as taking the time to do their own research.
