I have a cival action from Asset Acceptance LLC for Fcnb/newport News If New port news has gone belly up than where does this company come in and collect for them?? I have not paid or had a bill from them in 9 years. Now I recieve a civil action suite against me so who gets the money for a company that I have no ida who I owe. Like most of the ones I have read I have been offered the half paid off and half credit. I do not have anything they can take or garnish and can not get a blood from a turnip. ANSWER THE SUMMONS, BUT DON'T PAY A DIME

Whatever you do, do not let them get a default judgment against you. First of all, call up your courthouse and see if the summons is real or a scare tactic some JDBs will send as an intimidation tactic, hoping that you will pay. If it is real, they are very unlikely to show up in court. Either Asset Acceptance is trying to collect for another junk debt buyer, or they bought old (mostly beyond statute of limitations) debts that are beyond the statute of limitations and beyond the legal credit reporting clock.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT accept their "generous" offer of half cash, half credit. That is a way to get you to reaffirm the debt and starts both the statute of limitations and credit reporting clock over again. This will hurt your credit even more.
Call your courthouse as soon as you can and ask if the case number is on calendar.
