OAN Services of Florida apparently has a long history of fraud. If you contact them, you will be told that you are speaking to a lowly customer service rep who can do nothing and an administrator will call you back. The call back never happens.

My daughter, who is a minor and not authorized to commit anything to my phone bill signed up for their bronze web hosting for 7.95 (ironically enough I am a webmaster and have my own server). She was not even living in my home when she did this. They have refunded one month of billing and refuse to return the rest.

Their web site states:

Letter of Authorization: By Clicking the "Order Now" Button below, I confirm the information submitted and that I am 18 years old or older and I am duly authorized by the telephone account owner to make changes to and / or incur charges on this telephone bill account provided. Further I confirm my understanding and approval of the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of this offer. The website hosting and email service is the option and price you have selected above (Bronze, $7.95 per month), (Silver: $9.95 per month), (Gold, $12.95 per month), or (Internet Service, $24.95 per month) and the charges will appear on your local telephone bill on the OAN Services page (or in the Qwest regions it will appear on the ESBI bill page) as being billed on behalf of aDigitalVillage.com, LLC unless you cancel. You can cancel at anytime by calling Customer Service at 800-841-9070 or by emailing us at support@aDigitalVillage.com or writing us at aDigitalVillage Processing: PO Box 160, Sartell MN 56377.

However, in this day and age where verification of information is quite simple they do absolutely NOTHING to prevent fraud. Further, when fraud is discovered, it is simply not their problem.

The physical address is no doubt a post office store where they receive mail and not in fact their physical address.

If you have been ripped off by this company, you should file a complaint with your local state's public utility commission as they are using a utility company to rip you off.

I currently have filed complaints with the domain registrant, email provider etc.

Calling them directly is pointless.

I also found charges on my phone bill by this company. When I called them I was told I did indeed join. "Cynthia" stated I joined on 3-11-09, but the charges on my bill were from 3-1-09 to 3-11-09. When I brought this up to "Cynthia" she said all she could do was send my complaint to the supervisors. Furthermore, when I tried to log on to this company's web site where I had the alleged account, it told me my email address wasn't in their records.

I did not sign up for this service and I don't have any children at home. How do you explain that? I was also told that since they knew my email address and birth date, that was somehow evidence that I signed up. I informed them that info is easily obtained on the net by anyone who knows how to get it.

I'll be calling them for a while until I get the charges on my phone bill reversed. I've also reported them to the FCC, FTC and BBB of Florida. I looked them up at the BBB of Florida and their rating is a "F".

Not fraudulent

Being a parent, the first thing I would do would be to talk to my children about the seriousness of online purchases. Then I would politely contact the company and inform them that a minor signed up for this account.

Age verification is always done. However, not much can be done if a person provides us with fraudulent information.

If youre account was active for a long period of time, these cases require supervisor approval, so while they could issue a refund (and most likely did immediately), the rest gets escalated.

They will ask you for your number to be contacted back to give you notice that this was processed, and also ask for an email address so in case they are not able to reach you, they will send you an email summarizing the details for you.

You mentioned you are a website owner. If you have more advanced methods of detecting the age of the person, please pass the ideas and suggestions to support@aDigitalVillage.com.

We also have 24 hour, 356 days a year customer service available to assist you.

aDigitalVillage.com is home to over 30,000 peoples websites, blogs, photo albums and more.

I do not understand why you would contact our email provider, since we are our own provider? Or why you would call our registrar, since the information is the same.

If this solution was not rectified for you (although I doubt that it was left unanswered), please send an email to support@aDigitalVillage.com and they will get back to you usually the next business day.

Thanks!
