I obtained an Aflac policy on May 1, 2007. I was supposed to have dental, accident, and temporary disability (if I have an injury and miss days of work, I would get paid by Aflac for the days I missed) coverage.

I injured my knee and filed a claim with my agent on July 2, 2007. She told me I was covered under the temporary disability and would receive a check 24-48 hours after she faxed the claim to the main office.

When I never received the check, I called my agent, and got no answer. I called the main office and was informed that my agent had never covered me under the temporary disability. When I asked why I was told to talk to my agent. I have called her, left messages on her voice mail and with her office, called the main office, and got my agent's supervisors's number. I have left messages with him, and three days later I still have gotten no response from anyone. I also asked the main office if I could add the temporary disability to my policy, and was told only my agent can do that. Well, I can't do that if I can't reach her. When I explained this to Aflac, they basically said it's not their problem.

It's kind of hard to use copies of documentation to prove you are supposed to have coverage when your agent never gave you any documents to begin with.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Response to AFLAC customer ripoff by agent.

AUTHOR: Joy - (U.S.A.)

I was an independent Aflac agent. When you sign up for benefits through your company, you are suppose to receive a yellow copy of what you signed up for. Both your benefits personel and AFLAC agent are suppose to have these copies as well as you. If you have not gone to your benefits personel to see if they have copies of what you have signed up for, I would suggest doing that.

What I'm trying to say is that you need proof that you actually signed up for it. That is why corporate in Georgia can't help. They need proof that it was suppose to be there in the first place. If it is proven, then the fault will fall on that agent. And somehow AFLAC should make it right and should retro back any claims BUT all premuims must be paid to date. I've had people state this to me when signing new companies and have had to go back and fix another agent's goofs.

Another check or proof would be the deductions that were suppose to be taken out. They have codes to show what they cover and your benefits personel should be able to tell you what the deducts covered.

You can get individual policies without going through a company by just contacting another individual agent. Most are more than willing to do business with you. But you are right about getting a hold of your agent from the company. If it is a large company, they tend to get signed up then forgotten for any where from 3 months to year. Follow up on current clientale seems to be an isssue with some AFLAC agents. I feel this is AFLAC's down fall, customer service lacks in the many of the agents.

But the product itself is worth the premium. My husband was injured at his employment and they refused to claim it for workman's compensation. In the meantime, we filed for our AFLAC short term disability and accident policies, and both policies paid us over $35,000 in the six months he was out. This saved our home because my husband ultimately lost the job. We paid many bills including mortgage 6 months ahead. It truly gave him time to recover without the worry of our finances.

Just a couple of suggestions
