Complaint Information:
I was in need of a pair of boots in a timely manner, since I wanted them for a vacation trip that was scheduled a month away. I found a pair of boots online on the AFMO company's website. I telephoned the company instead so that I could speak to a representative. I specifically asked the following questions while on the phone: 1) Do you REALLY have the boots in stock? 2) Will I be shipped a pair promptly? The answer to both was Yes.

Two days later I received an email saying the boots were backordered, and would not ship until after my trip had commenced. I then found a different pair of boots from another company, and called AFMO to cancel the order. The CSR said there would be no problem in canceling the order.

However, two days before I was scheduled to leave, I got another email announcing the boots had shipped, and they would arrive while I was gone. I arranged for a neighbor to pick up the package, and contacted AFMO when I returned so I could ship them back. They agreed to take the boots back, and said they would pay me twice the cost I incurred to ship the boots back. I did receive the money back on the boots, but I am still out the money I paid out to ship the boots back. Since the mistake was made by AFMO, I do not feel I
should have to pay the bill, and they agreed when they promised to pay me twice the shipping costs. They did offer me a credit for $25, and said I could have a money order if I would be willing to wait up to six weeks.

If I chose to use the credit, I would still have to pay to ship any item purchased, and would
therefore have to pay money to recover my money. I opted to receive a check, but AFMO is no longer responding to my emails. On 1/16/04 I notified them I would like the check, and on 1/20/04 they said they would send the check.

Desired Settlement:
Send me a check for $25 dollars as promised.

If desired, I can forward copies of all email correspondence. If it REALLY becomes necessary, I can also provide copies of the phone bills to document when I made the calls to AFMO.

POSTED: Monday, March 06, 2006

I was forwarded the following email from "Steven Rosson, Director of Information/Technology, Armed Forces Merchandise Outlet" by the administrator of another complaint site.

To Whom it May Concern:

It has come to our attention that two complaints are posted regarding service
rendered by Armed Forces Merchandise Outlet:

http://www.XXXXXX.com/foo/blah.htm
http://www.XXXXXX.com/blah/foo.htm

Our attempts to reach these "customers" have been fruitless and we have not received a response from either person. In addition, no information was posted that would allow us to verify the authenticity of these orders. We have been in business since 1979, and on the web since 1996, and have always taken pride in our reliability and customer service. We do a large amount of business with the US military and other US government agencies, and allegations such as those made on your website certainly fall below the quality standards to which we are held by civilian customers, government agencies, and ourselves.

We ask that these complaints be removed immediately unless you have or can acquire documentation that they are legitimate. The legitimacy of the second complaint, which you surprising seem to have chosen for your "complaint of the day," certainly seems questionable, since the "customer" could certainly have contacted his credit card company for a chargeback. The very thought of a legitimate company acting in such a way as to take a customer's money and not ship any product is insane, and I am shocked that you would post such an allegation without corroborating proof.

Please let me know what we need to do to have these items removed.

This was my reply:

Interesting statements you make, sir:

"Our attempts to reach these "customers" have been fruitless and we have not received a response from either person." In this you imply that I was not a customer, and that I have not been reachable. The point about me being a customer is not entirely accurate, since I did once buy from you, although AFMO's action have left future such interactions in severe doubt. This email account has been in active use the entire time, and the link in the complaint sends mail directly to this address. Could you perhaps detail for me how you attempted to reach me?

"In addition, no information was posted that would allow us to verify the authenticity of these orders." I would have been a fool to post personal information on an open website. This information was forwarded, repeatedly, via email to AFMO representatives.

I have included the last email exchange I made with anyone from AFMO, using "Faith" as a name (no surname given). This was in December of 2004, and I was told I "would be notified." I guess this diatribe to XXXXX.com is your way of notifying me?

I did not include in this email the Word documents I referenced in the last email to AFMO, but I can, if so requested.

Please let me know if there is anything further that you require from me.

So... we'll see.

Update 02/17/05

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 19, 2005

Two months later I still haven't heard back. Don't know if AFMO's intent was to try and make me think they were actually going to do something about my complaint, but I'm still here, if they choose to make good on their promises.

Otherwise, I'm going to keep posting updates to the complaints I have posted at various sites.

Recieved an email today from "Faith" at AFMO:

Please send us your order number & name so that we can investigate your complaint made on complaints.com. We are undergoing a reorganization and can not locate your order from your email address.

We look forward to making you a happy customer again.

Sincerely,
AFMO
