The entire security alarm industry is a scam! If you have a wired system, it can be bypassed with a cheap jammer leaving you exposed to intruders. If your system is wireless, it can especially be hacked. Until the industry makes authentication, strong passwords (to ensure only you have access to your home or business and its alarm system), you are a sitting duck paying for meaningless monitoring. See Seattle superior court case against ADT...but this case should really apply to the entire industry as a class-action lawsuit! Moreover, I could mention all of the typical complaints re rising fees, having to pay them to fix their systems or even (gasp) pay $75 for a new battery install or $400 for a reprogramming of your system. Not to mention minimum theft/loss liability (mine was $250 in my last contract). Not to mention high monitoring fees, misleading ads for equipment costs "only $99 for 3 sensors when you need 10 plus a control panel.. I could go on and on, but 1000s of others have posted on these latter complaints. The real, outrageous issue is that the alarms can easily be defeated. My own alarm installer told me years ago he got dogs because the "police were slow". Now I know that the equipment just doesn't protect you and your family or business. I have always had an alarm system with several companies. It wasn't until I kept experiencing break-ins and burglaries that I investigated the industry. A lawyer for the industry expressed his online concerns about the future of the alarm industry. Even if you install your own wired or wireless system, you are still vulnerable until the requirements in my first paragraph have been met. To my knowledge, the security industry has not designed this equipment.
