On June 24th I took both of my 7 month old puppies to All Creatures Animal Hospital to be neutered.  When I brought both puppies home that night, I never received any written discharge instructions I was just told to watch their food and water intake that night to avoid any illness.  The next day everything seemed fine, however on Saturday morning one of the puppies was bleeding, not from the stitches but from underneath.  I called the hospital and was told to bring him back in.  I took my puppy back to the hospital and was told that they had to go back in to figure out where the bleeding was coming from.  At this point I paid out another $520 dollars on top of the $338 I had already spent to get them neutered.  I was told that we could come and pick him up the next day.  I called that night to check on him and was told yet again that I could pick him up the next day.  When I arrived on Sunday to pick him up it was recommended that I leave him there an extra night when I explained that the costs were a little higher than I had expected he offered to keep him for free.  I went back to see my puppy and found a tech standing over him and saying that she didn't know what had happened he just fell, it looked like his breathing was labored.  I asked a different tech to call Dr. Nasir Ahmed she called and he said that is was just a reaction to the medicine and since he got back up everything was fine.  I asked if they could check the dosage before they gave it to him again.  I was told not to worry and that everything was fine.

My sister and I went to see the puppy on Monday.  We were both very concerned by the fact that the puppy was very lethargic and the operation sight was very swollen.  When we asked Dr. Nasir Ahmed we were told that the dog was given tranquilizers to keep him calm and that the swelling was normal.  I was told that he was okay, everything was okay.  Again it was suggested that I leave the puppy with them.

When I went to see my puppy on Tuesday I was assured that everything was okay, but the puppy still seemed woozy and had no energy.

Wednesday I again went to my puppy only this time he seemed so much worse, I took him outside but he seemed just so tired and sad.  We went back inside I asked to talk to the Dr. he came down to talk to me and I said he doesn't seem to be getting any better, he looks so much worse than he did yesterday. He went to take the cone off of the puppy's head and he showed the most energy that I had seen in a while trying to pull away so that the Dr. wouldn't be touching him.  He told me to leave the puppy there one more night because they were trained to notice any problems and I didn't have that training.  At this point I told the Dr. that I was taking him home the next day regardless.

At 8 am Thursday morning I received a call telling me that my puppy had died.  When I asked from what I was told he didn't know that he was dead when they arrived at the hospital that morning.  We went to the hospital asked what happened and was told no one knows he died before anyone got there that morning.  The only thing that he kept saying was that if I had paid for the blood work this could have been avoided.  I asked how much a necropsy would be and was told it was between $450-550 dollars.  I asked for a little time before I made a decision.

It was suggested that I leave my puppy there for monitoring and treatment, but when we asked what time he had passed away, we were told that they were unsure they didn't find him until the tech came in that morning.  When asked who monitored the animals at night after much hesitation and much stuttering he deflected the question he became verbally aggressive with me and told me this could have been avoided had I paid for the blood work.

My sister and I asked for the medical records and we were told that he hadn't recorded what happened yet, but that we could get them later.  We kept asking about the medical records and he continued to refuse to give them to us.  We told him that we would come back later for the charting from that morning,if he could just give us the medical records up to Wednesday night would be fine.  Again he refused to give up the records.  We argued with him for over an hr and he still refused to give us the records.  We had to leave but I called and again asked if they were ready and was again told no.  I drove back to the animal hospital went to the receptionist desk and told her I'm here for my records and I will just stay here until they are ready.  From that point it still took over 2 hrs for me to get them.  While I was waiting the vet that had performed the necropsy called to give me the results, at that point he informed me that out of courtesy he would also call Dr. Nasir Ahmed to give him the results.  After being contacted by the vet who performed the necropsy Dr. Ahmed came into the room and informed me that he had just gotten off the phone with the other vet, he then proceeded to ask me what I wanted from him, and what he could get from me.  I asked him if he could explain to me why my puppy died and if he could explain how a blood test would have saved my puppy.  He didn't answer any of the questions.  My response at this point was to again ask for my medical records.  At this point he left the room and it was another half an hour before I received the medical records.  When I finally received the medical records while reading through them I realized that they had been falsified.  The records were full of alleged phone calls and untrue statements.

I called a different vet set up an appt for a necropsy and went and picked up my puppy's body.  I took the puppy to the new vet and was charged $130 dollars for the necropsy.  When I asked if that price varied I was told no there were going to be no changes in the body so the price should by about the same. The results of the necropsy showed that my puppy bled out.  There was blood in his abdomen.  So the swelling that I kept asking about was not normal.  This could have been avoided if he had just felt his belly or done any kind of physical examination.  To top it all off his bedside manner that last day left much to be desired.  My puppy had died in his care and his response was to blame me for not getting blood work.
