Allegheny Power SECURITY DEPOSIT RIPOFF Greensburg Pennsylvania

I have lived in the same home for 26 years and have never had my electricity shut-off for non-payment. About 2 years ago, Allegheny Power decided that my due date should be betwqeen the 9th and the 11th of the month. I requested my due date be made on the 25th of the month because of the way my payroll falls (the first check of the month goes for the mortgage and the second check goes for utilities). They told me that the due date could not be changed because of the date the meter is read by the meter reader. But, my meter is not by the meter reader. It is electronically read because I went to the expense and trouble of having the meter changed so that the meter reader would not have trouble accessing my yard.

So, Allegheny Power sends me a shut-off notice 5 days after the 11th of the month knowing that I can't pay until the 25th. After 3 shut-off notices, they then demand a security deposit of $300.00 because I am considered "high -risk". High risk after living in the same home for 26 years and always having my bill paid by the end of each month?!! These people will try to get money out of you for any reason to line their pockets with the interest! If you have customer choice for your electric service -DON"T CHOOSE ALLEGHENY POWER - or you may just be paying a security deposit even though your bill is paid every month.


I filed with the PUC which just made them demand the security deposit in whole within 2 weeks. Merry Christmas to me and my family!
