I had been with Alltel Wireless for 7 years. I paid my May bill, and then switched to Metro PCS on June 3rd, porting my phone number. Previous to this, I went to the Alltel Store to cancel the second line on my account. Before they would do this, they made me talk to a "customer retention rep". He offered me a free phone, and no contract, if I would reconsider keeping my second line. For that, I agreed.

I went back to Alltel to try their Wireless Internet. I had a satisfaction guarenteed for 30 days, or bring back the item, no cancellation fee (they actually give you another phone number in which to "dial" to connect). I was disatisfied with the service, and returned the items well within the time allotted. Satisfied that I had no contract with Alltel, I went and switched Carriers, prior to Verizon taking over.

A bill in July comes, stating that I owe Alltel $687.00. That was followed by a nastygram from Verizon that my "service was discontinued for non payment".
I paid what I owed, severed my relationship with Alltel, and get that kind of letter. I called Alltel, who agreed that the bill was wrong. They charged me early termination fees, then credited me back for it, then charged it again.

I was floored. They then pass this account on to Verizon who threatened me with Collections. Thier "finance" Department, when I phoned the number on the letter asked me if I was going to take care of this "today". I told them hell no, I am not paying this, I dont owe this. So they said they would transfer me to their Customer Service Dept., however, it will still show negative on my credit report and they will continue to try and collect this supposed Debt, and if Customer Service (Verizons) didnt agree with me, then the Debt will stick. What kind of crap is this? Alltel sold them an account that did not exist (or shouldnt have) and now I have Verizon up my pants for it. I tried to call Alltel but the phones have been changed. I asked for a copy of my May and June bill, but Verizon says they dont have it. I am not about to pay for early termination fees for 3 phones, that were not under contract. BTW: Metro PCS isnt any better.
